Title: music 3000 almost great...
Post by: pillagemyvillage on January 14, 2008, 09:21:04 PM
i own music 3000 but make most of my music with mtvmg2. so why would i use an older programme?
well, music 3000 has more samples than music2000 and mtvmg2 (the original samples from music2000/mtvmg2 remain but loads of great ones added). it also has better sound quality and a more professional look. BUT...
first off using all of those new samples is difficult. as in difficult to mess around with. throw around ideas, the sort that pay off. the best thing about music2000/mtvmg2 is that within a hour you can make a bass line, breakdown and loads of drum loops. another hour and your track is taking shape!
even when you have 'writers block' the ability to quickly mess around with samples finding something that works is priceless. this is what is missing from music 3000. it can be very frustrating!
i think its the controls and interface that are the problem.
the reverb is more advanced but i dont feel its as good as the simple 'space' etc.
another big problem is that some bass notes (really good bass notes) clash with each other when played in a finished riff.
another massive negative for me is that music 3000 crashes frequently. ive lost countless tracks this way.
so this is the reason i stick with mtvmg2. its just easier and quicker to turn your ideas into tracks.
well this is my opinion. dont get me wrong you can make awesome tracks with this programme (as seen on here and youtube etc) but i find i can make music easier with mtvmg2.
what would have been awesome... music 3000 samples (the added ones are really good) with music2000/mtvmg2 controls and interface!
stick to what you know i guess!

nice review. I may stick to mtvmg for a while cuz i dont like mtvmg2 controls much nor the vertical interface.

Music 3000 was released as Funkmaster Flex's Digital Hitz Factory where I live but I can't find it in stores and it's only on the american portion of amazon, and they doesn,t ship video games in Canada.

I totally agree with you, MUSIC3000 does seem a lot better on paper as it should be, it is a later edition, but the crashing issue isn't something we should have to deal with, I use MUSIC2000,(which also crashes on occasion,) as I feel like I know it inside out but theres always something new to try..but I swear to myself that I will give MUSIC3000 another try as I really wanna use all the sounds on offer, especially now as I can upload tunes to cool sites such as this.

yeah music2000 is def the easiest control wise. im just used to mtvmg2! but no matter how much i use music 3000 i cant quite get it! ive not used music2000 for a while now but i could easily pick it up again and start making tracks.
i know all the programmes crash from time to time (i always back up my files on memory card just in case) but music 3000 is really bad. not only does it freeze up sometimes, data can save corrupt! there has been occassion when i have made really good music and then lost it through corrupt data! very annoying.
so when i go to make a track im thinking do i go for music 3000 where there are some awesome samples (perfecto, paul oakenfolds label, has supplied some samples especially some superb synth samples) but expressing ideas is harder to do and it will more than likely crash on me when i save the file or try a complicated riff... or do i go for mtvmg2 which is not likely to crash (not had one for months now) and is easy to use!
its mtvmg2 for me!
i have made a couple of ok tunes on music 3000 but i dont think they will ever be as good or prolific as the ones i make on mtvmg2!

Was about to load up MUSIC2000 but now I think i'll try MUSIC3000, I have about 11 tracks that i've made using it, but when I listened to them back i'm not so sure they are worth putting up on the site, some of them i've added and they are the best ones, quite terrible..so what is MTVMG2 then? whats the equivelent?

MTVMG2 is kinda an upgrade to Music 2000, which was released as MTV Music Generator in USA.  It has all samples from MTVMG1 but apparently save files can corrupt if you put too many effects. It is also vertical scrolling and cannot be changed, like in Music 3000

yeah mtvmg2 is basically music 2000 but with a few more added samples.
and yes vertical scrolling cant be changed which is an absolute nightmare to begin with!

Was wondering if MUSIC3000 samples are mono too or are they stereo? My screen in MUSIC2000 gets full real quick with cloning riffs

I know in MUSIC, Music 2000 and MTVMG2 are all mono, I'm not sure about 3000 tho. I know it has 48 KHz sampling though

Two things that really flip my sh*t...

1) The game was so buggy and sold so poorly, it apparently killed the series. Can you imagine how awesome this would be on the PS3 or Xbox 360? Or if it was on the wii, you could use the controller to actually draw the wave in the sample editor? We'll never know. Just one example of how this game screwed the pooch... the "Voice2Music" feature did not work

2). The "contest" to win a recording contract. I bought DHF when it came out, on that very day, and I sent in my memory card well before the deadline. I not only never heard anything back, but neither did anybody else as the website was never updated.

Yeah I think barely any promotion was done for the game and they were sold in small quantity. Also being the fact MTVMG2 was slightly harder than Music 2000 then Music 3000 is made even harder than MTVMG2 it drew people away from it. It also had more bugs, which didn't helped. Afterward Jester quitted making music programs. Codemasters made their own but it wasn't like the old ones anymore, since it wasn't designed by Jester. They just turned MTVMG3 into a MTV ad kinda x.x

EDIT: Btw can Music 3000/FFDHF load MTVMG2 songs?

One thing I was really hoping for - and severely disappointed by the absence of - was to be able to import Generator 1 songs into Generator 2.  Or, at least, I never figured out how to do it.  I tried to recreate some of my songs in G2, but it was always a hit-or-miss proposition.

You can't import any of them.

Aaah ok I was just wondering, since you can do it from MUSIC to Music 2000
