ok, m2k must be nearing a decade in age soon?
could we organise a poll/discussion board or something, that will eventually crown one timgul tune the best ever created?
any ideas as to how to achieve this?
we've all been at the programmes for the past decade or so, so wouldnt it be nice to discuss the best of this golden generation?
maybe have a top 3?
it will also liven up the downloads and set up some cool discussion, id know the tracks id vote for, im sure you do too...
this isnt some self satisfying post, but a tribute to the programmes and the users who have greated some awesome tunes ;D

maybe every member could pick his top 10 or top 5 songs, then it could be possible to make a poll including the most nominated songs.
yet this requires the partecipation of a significant number of members who have listened a significant number of songs, and i'm not sure that this fits our forum. i mean, we are a small community and probably few guys have listened an adequate number of songs so far (otherwise they would probably have replied in my 'best songs' thread)

Well let's wait a little while for more feedback from others, then we can get the poll underway. I like this idea as it not only promotes members to newer members and perhaps older ones who haven't heard many artists' songs, but also it allows the artist to see who likes what song the best, and perhaps elements of that song can be used in their future tracks to make them much better.
yeah it'll liven things up, get a few debates going and get people downloading...

Well, I'd like to hear what a few others think about it first but I have no problems with this. Perhaps just the simple way of members giving their favourites per genre like John P mentions or by members giving in their favourites and doing a tally at the end.
Well, I think we should each come up with a list of our best songs, and let people vote for which one is the best. Then, each winner competes against each other in a final battle to the death.

too many great tunes on here for me to choose, and i will feel bad if i leave any one out, also not heard every tune on the site, plus everyone knows i love pillages work and wouldn't want people to think i was picking his stuff because we are good mates. think ill leave this one to you guys :) good luck everyone :)

Own songs, and others can vote. Then each "best" song competes against others. Maybe the top 3 from each member.

True, but some people may have lost their track when the board died last time. Also, older songs may have been forgotten by some members.

hmm, yes i feel the good thing about this would be the fact that if some tunes were up to vote for, and you hadnt heard them, then you'd have to have a listen and put in your votes... this would liven up the board and get people downloadinbg older tunes and start lots of discussion... there are many tunes ive not heard, so this would be a good thing as id then have a listen to loads more tunes and cast some votes... it would be fun to do and over the course of some months determine the greatest ever m2k/mg2/m3k/mg3 tune ever made
it won't take long before i can write down my top 10 favourites. unfortunately there are lots of broken links so i cannot listen to the songs which were not uploaded as attachments

for me, voting for just 3-5 songs would be hard enough as there are so many great tunes here... it would then be hard to select or submit 1 vote for the best timgul tune ever... but that is kinda cool and i think we should do it!!! what say you dub-ya? lets do it and lock it in the news section too!

good idea. this way everyone has the chance to promote songs that other members didn't had the chance to listen. besides every musical genre will have an equal treatment, so this seems a fair system to me. i think 3 songs per genre will be enough to get a large number of songs available for vote

obviously we'd need a eventual closing date, which would be prob around a month...
would the best way be to initially give each member a chance to put in their top 3 songs (in their opinion), and then once all the votes are in, give every one a set amount of time to vote for their favs, then once all the votes are in for that, put in a top 10 poll, giving everyone the final desicion to vote for the greatest timgul tune of all time...

yeah when jcw returns maybe it could be put on the front page, and then give everyone enough time to post their songs... once all the songs are in, a poll could be created and then after a set amount of time, the top 10 voted tracks could be placed into another poll, and then after another set amount of time, the top voted song would be crowned!!
just want to say the only way this can work and be fair is if we put it into (""genres"" lol) or categories like, best DnB tune, Best Trance tune, Best HardTrance, Best House, Best ambient ect....then have nominations, make it the TIMGUL AWARDS rather then THE BEST TIMGUL TUNE EVER, because people will vote for the kinda music they like the most rather then what is the best tune, because how can you say it "the best"? are we talking about the melody's used? how well it is put together? how good is the sound quietly? its not gonna work dudes, need to break it down, and that way there will be more then one winner and more people will be happy to enter,
then once we have the best from all the categories, then vote for the best tune from all the winners in the different categories ! a winners winner vote ;D

I completely agree with Quade and his TIMGUL awards idea and yeah, tune of the month sounds cool too.
Sorry but I have a top 5 regardless of polls, so instead of that (and it may have been suggested), why don't people just select their own favourite tracks, I know mine won't be up there, as a newbie I'm completely cool with that, I'm nowhere near as good as Pillage, Quade, Bliss, JCW, Nakamura, Shellshaka etc, but I feel if people just select their top 5 personal choices, it may make for a much better variety and people maybe surprised by the results.
TIMGUL awards sounds cool as well, because I don't think there is a "greatest" cos at the end of the day its all about opinions, and we are but (I hope!) humble artists! Haha

maybe it would be best to look at all of the ideas suggested and then go with the best idea...
best song of each genre, with song of the month etc... its up to you guys how it would be done, but lets do it to encourage interaction and so on... lets get it on!!
quade's idea is the best imo, however it's going to be difficult to make it work. there are just too many songs to listen to in each category and i'm not sure that many users have the will or the time to check that many songs. moreover we should think about the categories and this would get even more complicated.
i say let's make it as simple as possible. let's just write down our 10 favourite songs for now, then we could check if some songs are included in the lists of various users. those could be considered the best songs.
'song of the month' is a cool contest, but how can we vote with considering the currrent lack of partecipation to the forum?

i still think that the best way would be for every artist to put forward 3 of their tunes (or 1-2 depending how many tunes you have uploaded) then put all of those tunes into a poll, then put the top 10 tunes into an overall poll (maybe for each genre?) then an overall top tune (again, possibly for each genre) could be decided upon votes being cast...
that way if there was a tune you havent heard you can listen and comment anyway, thus livening up the board... doesnt mean you have to vote for it...
could give a date for tunes to be be put forward too (although i already know what 3 of my tunes id put forward!)
i know that if i listed 'fanfare' in my top 3 tunes i've done, that people wouldnt need to listen to it as its quite popular. however if it was a tune from way down the boards, i might need to listen to refresh my memory etc...
this might well cause other less active timgul users to participate too, putting forward their songs even if its only one tune.
i really think it would be good fun, so lets do it!!
Sounds good. I'd already planned on doing a topic with a poll with 5 of what I feel are my best songs, and having people vote. The top 3 vote getters I'll submit in this deal.
I thought we were going for the awards thing? The "greatest song" does sound a bit pretentious to me, that's my own opinion and as I have previously stated, it's not that I know that mine won't be involved, it's that it's all opinionated, and to be quite honest, I don't believe any one song is better than another. We all have our own production levels, our own genres, beats etc, no one song can be comprehensively compared to anothers by way of a vote as say mine will be different from someone else's vote, we all have our own personal favourites, and I think the awards would be a good way to boost a> morale on the board after all the shit that has happened, b> a way to reward people's personal hard work and effort and maybe get people more involved in the board again and finally c> a way to inspire people to create even better tunes in case they don't win one.
