Name: Kévin Ouellet
Age: 21 (turning 22 in 5 days)
occupation: clerk at a supermarket (huge food store).
Hobbies: I make music since 2002 (altough I stopped when my CD broke for 3 years), and atm it's one of my favourite hobby. Else I like listening to music and sometimes playing Starcraft or old SNES games (RPGs mostly). I used to program for TI-83+ calculators too (mostly RPGs too). You can see how it looks like (altough this is not a RPG):

As for production wise, no matter what it is, music or not, I tend to always go the easy way and I only produce with what I am comfortable with. I will lose interest making a song if when trying to create a riff and put it in a song I have to trial and error every key+mouse combination everytime I want to do an action, due to how complicated some professional softwares are. This is why I always used Music 2000 for music making and recently started switching to MTVMG2
NAME - Phillip Doherty
AGE - 25
OCCUPATION - Data entry clerk (Mind numbingly tedious, I know!)
HOBBIES - I too am an avid collector of films, my taste ranges from cheesy 80`s comedies to obscure foreign language films. My favourite director is Stanley Kubrick, the man was a genius!
I couldn`t live without my music either, my favourite bands are Radiohead and Grandaddy. Went to see Radiohead at Old Trafford the other day and it was amazing.
I also like videogames but don`t play them nearly as much as I used to. I bought a Wii just to play The Legend Of Zelda as this is my favourite series of games ever!
Okay, sure, I'll join in, too.
My name's David and I'm about to hit the big "four-oh".
I eek out a meager existence doing photo restoration/repair and editing work out of my home.
I'm a movie and tv buff and I like sci-fi/fantasy the best. My favorite shows include Stargate SG1, Buffy/Angel, Firefly, and Rescue Me, but I do like a good sitcom, as well, such as My Name Is Earl and The Big Bang Theory (those geeks are funny as hell).
Back in the good ol' days, I used to dig on some rap/hip-hop stuff but my main musical interests lie in rock and heavy metal. My favorite bands include System Of A Down, Rammstein, Faith No More, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Disturbed, Hed(PE), etc., etc., etc.. I, also, tend to get bitten by the nostalgia bug, every once in a while, and will listen to some 70's music or Dean Martin or Tom Jones stuff. And I was a big-time Prince fan up until a little after Parade came out. I do like a couple of his songs that came out after that but I haven't really even listened to most of it - especially after he started preaching.
And I just LOVE the internet. I get most of my news from DiGG and FARK and see most movies and tv shows through (sources that shall remain un-named, for obvious reasons).
I didn't really care too much for videogames, when I was younger. In my late twenties, though, I got a used SNES with a couple of games and played DOOM and Phantasy Star II until my fingers bled. After the SNES died on me, I got a PlayStation, along with the first Resident Evil and Tomb Raider games. Tomb Raider was the greatest thing I'd ever seen (up to that point). I remember the "butterflies in the stomach" feeling that I would get whenever she fell from a great height - it felt like I, myself, was falling. It was so cool. Eventually, I moved on to the PS2. The GTA games were my favorites, as well as the Tony Hawk series, but I do love a good RPG, as well, with the Final Fantasy series being my favorites, in that category. Since my PS2 died and I can't afford to replace it and my crappy computer can barely handle emulating SNES and Sega systems (and chokes on PlayStation emulators) I really haven't been playing a lot of games, recently. On the PC side, I've always liked the "god games", i.e., Age Of Empires and The Sims.
Well, I guess that's more about me than anyone really needs to know. :D
Did you liked Starcraft too? (some kind of Sci-fi version of Age of Empire) I still play this often but I suck at it x.x

On youtube I always confuse you with oscar3w o.o (another music 2000 user).
What RPG Maker do you use by the way? I mostly use the 2003 version
I used the old one (2000), it had less options but easier to handle.
After I had to restore my hard drive I didn't find the R2K Version again so now I use the RPG Maker 2003 (too many options :-\).
yeah 2003 was built over 2000. Once i got able to open a 2000 file in 2003 and it worked fine (altough enemies displayed at weird locations and I needed to add battle charsets). However when I saved it i couldn't open it anymore in RM2000. They basically just added more options and new battle system. I don't like '95 because it doesnt work with Windows XP fine and games does, but text boxes are completly black or white so i can't see text most of the time. As for RMXP I don't like the high resolution and i hate how you must program to do most stuff you could do in the older ones without having to code. Also you need to patch it to work in Vista. As for the last one, VX, at least you can do 2003 stuff again without coding but I still don't like the screen resolution. Making graphics that big is quite hard for me. At least with 2000/2003 I can use Charas.EX to make my monsters and character sprites and it's easier to rip tiles from video games if you don't feel like doing all the graphics by your own
RMXP got definitely the worst of them if you can't handle Ruby...and I can't handle that coding at all ???.
I have nothing against the resolution of RMXP, it could have been the best of the RPG Makers if they would have left all the old possibilities...
Well I loaded my "main" game into RPG 2003 and work at it sometimes, battle system is already done but I need a better story^^
Actually one thing I hate with the 2003 battle system is that the battle speed gets awfully slow when there's like 4+ enemies present. Even if you set your character so it has 3000 speed (the default 500+weapon+armor+shield+helmet+accessory) then autocast speed x2 on him it will still go at the same speed. It will go even worse if the enemy casts a slow down spell afterward. This is why if I ever do a RPG using the internal battle system again I will do it usign RM2000 or VX (providing I can find decent tiles). Right now I don't need to worry about this as I am making a Zelda-type game.
Kings amongst men.
No need to worry about the pre-made battle system for me^^
I made it with variables and fork conditions, so I could adjust the details by myself :)
aaah ok. It must be a lot of work to make the menus with all these variables. The worst part is displaying text. For Gold Pieces (max is 9999 gold) I had to use images containing each digits drawn from 0 to 9, then split each gold piece variable content digits into 4 variables and display 4 copies of the digit pics behind another picture of the same color, the Y position being based on each separate digits. Once I had an engine where HP, LVs and MP were displayed that way since I had a real time action engine back before my PC crashed too and I had to put delays after every 4 or 5 images displayed because it made the game lag like crazy so much there was code.
EDIT: Here's the current HUD code just to see how things are for now. I might optimize later though. Just to show you how it can get crazy x.x. It's not too hard to figure out and it's very easy to code, it just looks extremly long XD:
All that just to display the side bar to the right like shown in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Yl568xP_lI&fmt=18
And there's even more code elsewhere to define variable value when starting a new game and when special things occurs
Yea loads of code to design own battle systems (I didn't make a normal RPG engine, as I make a horror game that builds up on the "Fatal Frame" ps2 games my battle engine is the same as in those games. Btw I managed to get the R2k version again ;D)
How did you copy your code into the post? Because that doesn't work for me ???
Oh and I like the interface you made for the game :)
I actually had to copy the code in an image since I can't paste it. For us french people it is easier to get an hold of all RPG Maker versions because in the france RM community as soon as one of these softwares comes out it gets cracked/patched to be translated in french and the software is avaliable on almost every RM site since the company doesn't seems to pay attention very much. In the english community webmasters tends to follow copyright rules more so it's harder to find there. Also there are signifiantly more RPG Maker communities in french than in english for some reasons, which is quite strange, considering there's a lot more english speaking people in the world and that in france people tend to not care about RPGs from experience. It is actually illegal to redistribute since the original japaneese version was not free. I wish back then they released english versions of their own so at least we could have bought that and it would have been more popular among fans.
Copying the code into an image and letting a programm look for the text, or how does this work?
Well I don't care about the english RPG community since the german one is really good (in my eyes) and there are still many games released. You won't find one single RPG Maker though...
For the code what I did is that I pressed printscreen on my keyboard, pasted the image in an image editor, only kept the code part, went back into RPG Maker, scrolled down and repeated the process until I got the entire code in one single image then saved as a .gif
I tend to not participate into RM communities myself though because they are too uptight about RTP usage. As soon as someone sees a graphic from the RTP in your game he freaks out and other people start bashing your work solely based on the graphics. Also I'm not good enough to be to their standards I think. I mean, when I visit the french RM community I see games that are better looking than some PS1 games x.x
Also in the english community most people hate RM2000/2003 so if you post such game you might get your thread trolled
I'm going to try that out, thx :)
I was active in one rpg maker forum and 95% of the people there used (and I think are still using) the 2003 version. I bet they would have talked bad about the graphics of my game, too but I only went there to ask some questions and not for posting game content^^
Of course there are people that make significant games, but most of those games are produced by a bunch of people and every person is specialized on one thing, like persons for char sets, persons for maps, persons for story and dialogue, person for animations etc etc...if I would have such a staff the game would sure be better :D It's just that I haven't got the time for such a big project (and I don't want to either^^).

THis is nothing, :), on my other forums 3 years ago there was a news article about a TI-89 graphing calculator RPG project written in TI-BASIC and C and it ended up as the most commented article of all time with 99 comments (after splitting a part of the topic in another, else it would have 104 comments). It went from the RPG to porn, passing through calculator programs/games code theft discussion, the Texas Instrument CD fiasco (came with all TI-83+ Silver Edition models in 2001 until a parent noticed a program on the CD contained ASCII porn and sent a lawsuit to TI), religion and similar stuff x.x
I never seen such off topicness elsewhere yet in one single topic
