Title: Not a Number: Clouds (Demo #1) (Instrumental)
Post by: Not a Number on July 11, 2008, 10:51:14 PM
Song name: Clouds (Demo #1) (Instrumental) ((also called the "Illemonati Demo"))
File type (mp3, wav, etc): mp3
BPM: ~90
Length: 2:54
Description:
A demo version of Track 7 of the upcoming album /0. A vocal version was released in a compilation album on another forum, seeing as I needed to resume work on this album (which is terrible of me say because I've been hoping to get this album released by September 08).

The actual song itself, I wanted to do something a lot more slower and ambient with my usual style of prog-rock/metal-influenced-futurepop. The final-album verison of this song I've intended to be much longer; although I'm unable to write a second verse, I'll be making it up by adding a solo-esque section.
Yes, the song sounds simple and possibly repetitive, but bear in mind this is meant to be a vocal song, so the complex element is toned down a little.

Nice song, do you use Music 2000 PC for this? If so, how do you manage to have stereo reverb? I never got able to have stereo reverb like on the playstation version. I never understood why sound quality was better on a playstation than a CD O.o

I don't have the PC version on my computer; all of mine is done on a PlayStation emulator (with exception to all but one on my "M2K" release)

I believe I stated a week or so back about how I do my stereo reverb; link to post (http://www.mtv-music-generator.com/index.php?topic=28.msg3264#msg3264)

I also tweak around with panning as well; you might notice that some string notes are played slightly to the right and some are played slightly to the left.

aah ok I see, I was wondering. I know how to do the reverb on the PSX and PC version, but on the PC version that reverb method still keep sound mono it seems, plus it's hard to hear sometimes, this can be problematic since most of the time we rely on reverb effects to add more deep to the song. Of course there's not pan effects but in some cases it doesn't sound as good.

No, the host's server's been down for quite some time; it seems he's lost all the subdomains. I'll put up an alternate download link up there (and in this post as well)

bass line compliments the melody nicely too...

Well, once the album is actually compled (however slow it may be to get there xD), I'll only be giving out a small handful of tracks for free (3 out of 12) once finished. The rest (alongside the downloadable ones) will be burned a disc which I'll possibly be burning and shipping myself (at a price £5 via PayPal per copy).

Actual progress is that I've got the lyrics to all 11 tracks written down (because one track is to be an instrumental), it's just figuring out the backing behind it that's the trouble; and of course, finding the right samples, which seems to be as big a pain as figuring out the notes. It's that bad it's putting me off. D:

The finished version (at least the instrumental track) is moreorless the same as this version, only it's much longer (I'm gonna guess 5:08), as it has another verse/chorus section and an instrumental section at the end.

Whether I actually get the other 10 instrumental tracks finished (some, even started for that matter) is something I can't confirm. I seem to be in some sort of a creative slump at the moment (that and I can sometimes have a really good loop in my head, but placed down on M2K it sounds horrible).

VERY nice mood music, great melodies, Pillage is right, this is quite  a complex piece of music, I can`t wait to hear the finished version.

I like it... I like it a lot.
Great clarity and use of reverb.... This nearly sounds like some Bassotronics.
I really like your slow tempo/use of piano...
