I seem to be having trouble changing my avitar pic. It says "file is too large or is not an avitar". I`ve tried uploading a jpeg and a bitmap version of the pic...any ideas?
It doesn't work for some reason, you have to upload the pic somewhere and then use the 'link to an offsite avatar' feature.
Oh a few months ago I restricted avatars to 128x128 max size because the posts were getting ridiculously huge even if they contained just one line sometimes and it slowed the board down too. I decided to leave the current avatars that are big as they are but it's no longer possible to upload them anymore again unless you resize them under 128x128 in MS Paint or any other image editing software.
As for JCW your avatar seems to work fine? As for jpg/bmp I'm unsure if you can upload these formats, I don't think the forum software let me change the allowed format except for uploads in posts
Yeah I linked offsite, it seems to work if the sizes are within the original restrictions the image I use is only a little over 100 x 100 I think.
Okay, thanks dudes!
Agggghhhhhrrrrr! Not working!!!! >:(
Can someone explain exactly how I upload an avitar using the "link to an offsite avitar" thing? I`ve uploaded a pic to savefile but am unsure what to do from there...I don`t just paste the link as I would with a music track do I?
I think I`ve got my stupid (or drunk) head on today but I feel so bare without an avitar!
Thanks. :)
Get a free account at someplace like http://photobucket.com/ and upload your avatar there.
It will give you links to use at places like this.
Use the Direct Link for your avatar and, if you want to post a picture that you want to show up in a forum comment or as a signature (like mine), use the IMG Code Link (basically, the same link but with "[ img ]" and "[ /img ]" at either end (without the spaces).
For example, here's a direct link: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b15/zapphnath/StinkNPoopsmall.jpg
and here's an IMG Code link:
That's my dog and cat, by the way.
Thanks for the in depth explanation I didn't provide, Zapphnath. Should help people having issues.
Thanks everybody, I`ve managed to do it now...although it`s a little squashed.
Yeah my avatar of the cool cat was 100 x 120 or something but the auto image resize sets it to 127 x 127 I believe, that's why it's squashed. I'm not too sure, but hey don't worry about yours it looks cool. A robot and a balloon??
I fixed the image squashing I think. It was set to resize stuff using HTML, but Javascript resizing resizes avatars proportionally while HTML doesn't.
Thanks Omni. :)
