Experimental/Other / My Father the Hero
July 03, 2011, 04:10:36 AM
This track was originally cut back in 2003; however I cleaned up the sound earlier today...never sounded clearer! (The original was on a cassette tape). The part at the end was a sample from a conversation my dad and I had 3 months before he passed away. He's been gone 8 years but I still miss him. Been thinking a lot about him lately...happens once faced with your own mortality, I guess.

This will  be on our upcoming release, "Family Heat", which hopefully will be on sale soon....

The VERY FIRST F2S TRACK EVER, done in June of 2001. Pre-made riffs all around...well, I just decided (after smoking myself stupid) to add vocals to it, T-Pain style.

As mentioned earlier, I've done some songs where I have the tv muted while writing, and don't hear the song until I put it on the computer and master it in Adobe Audition.

This is one of those songs.

Been experimenting with some new ways of doing beats.

Experimental/Other / Age of Asparagus(demo)
October 30, 2010, 07:08:41 AM
Inspired by the awesome demos J-Machine has put forth, I have taken some of our unfinished songs from roughly 2005-2009, and made a "mini-mix" of them, so to speak.  Some of these fragments ended up being used in actual songs, and some of them accidently got deleted off the memory card.

The frog croaking seperates the different sections.

Experimental/Other / Chorkin' The Chicken
October 22, 2010, 08:13:52 AM

Considering I got very little attention about the 1st disc of the F2S anthology , maybe I'm wasting my time with this one. But in case...

This is from our 2nd period stuff...fall 2002. Not nearly as focused as we would become. Yet, I happen to think it's fun.
#15
More madness from Oct 2002...this for obvious reasons can never be posted anywhere else without me going to jail lol. I was wasted.... :o

In advance, please forgive my language...

Experimental/Other / Evil Mindy (TIMGUL Exclusive)
October 21, 2010, 09:52:39 AM
This is a TIMGUL exclusive for now, as it's going to be on Vol2 of the F2S Anthology. By this point, you could get a contact high just from listening to it. I'm not promoting or condoning, or condemning for that matter...just stating a fact.

Song dates from Oct 2002.

The writing credits state R.Proseus/M.Robinson/D.Castillo/B.Castillo. I only did the last section. M. Robinson is actually a girl named Mindy Robinson whom we worked with and partied with then. This was her one and only F2S appearance.

This will be broken up into various posts for each Volume. This first one deals with a  pre-F2S tracks that were done. By the time we become Sanity's Requiem, you'll start to hear some more familiar type things. I've posted the read me file that comes with download.

Just load up the winamp playlist (m3u file entitled Fear 2 Stop The Early Years) and it will play the songs in the correct order. For some reason winamp names them

"track 2"  and such, only occasionally naming the tracks by their correct name. So, um, yeah...

FEAR 2 STOP- The Early Years

The Tracks:

Lord God of Host - Recorded fall 2000. This track obviously pre-dates Fear 2 Stop.  The vocalist is named Julie Elkowitz...I produced a session for her and her

mother that day for a college project. Although incomplete  (and ad-libbed!), it's worth inclusion for historical purposes.

Pale Blue Sky- Recorded spring 2000, also a college project. The lead vocalist/bassist had a phobia of headphones (!), the drummer was actually a guitarist who up

until that point had never drummed, and I sang backup, produced and mixed.

*= Me Only      #= Raymond only        ^^= both of us   @= Me & Dana

Chork*- April 2001. This commercial was for a class project. I'm the voice of the salesman, and also wrote the thing. Enjoy your chork.

Buttfucker Symphony-@ Recorded Summer 2000. This is a proto-Fear 2 Stop song, in that it consists of Dana & I working, but at this point it was more of a hobby

than us working on music just for that sake. Obviously tongue in cheek, and could NEVER put this out commercially. Recorded on Music Generator 1.

The Flood:* June 2001, first week. Shortly after Dana & I got married on 26 May  (Raymond was best man!), I received Music Generator 2 as a gift from

Raymond. Well, the honeymoon was cut short due to me needing an emergency root canal, and then a massive tropical storm. At pretty much the same time. So, I

passed out on Vicodin and Fear (which would make a GREAT song title) with water approaching the front door of my mother-in-law's house. I woke up at about

2pm the next afternoon, surprised to find myself not underwater. The rain stopped right at the door. We also still had electricity, just no TV service. So, we fired up

the PS2 and specifically MG2...although I'm the only one who worked on it, and it was mostly premade riffs, this is a nice first effort. Plus, I wrote it in about 15-20

minutes, very inspired by the flooding outside. We also recorded a comedy tape at the same time, but that's for another time...

Polar*- Sometime in the fall, 2001. There at one point was a finished version, but it no longer exists. Long story. This sadly is only surviving version, and the cassette

tape is deteriorating, hence the tempo snafus and occasion sudden change in pitch. There are a few custom riffs in there too.

Here With You- ^^ Oct. 2001. One of our final attempts at using predominatly pre-made riffs, this time going for a rock sound. A bit out of chronological order, but

this was a stylistic departure and would stand out either way.

Alien Ascension-# Sometime in the fall,2001. This is Raymond's track. At that point, having recently decided that the two of us making music wasn't just a passing

fancy, we each started working on material. This is  Raymond's 3rd track he'd done by himself, and if you listen closely, you can hear glimpes of our later style.

Dry Tears-# late Summer 2001. All my songs were made with premade riffs with a few custom ones. This was Raymond going the complete opposite route...he

never had learned how to best use the premades.  So, he took a chance and did it all from scratch, with very few premades. I took heed...

In a Sense *- Sept 2001....all of the notes made shapes. Like balloons and such. I will have to upload pictures to understand.

Now, from here on out, we're a group.

Afghan Bound (R.Proseus/B.Castillo)= October(?) 2001 . Not 100% sure on the dates, but by this point we're a duo. At this point we were "Frog and Beaver". I

was Frog. This was indeed a response to the events of 9/11. Premade riffs are gone, never to return except on extremely rare occasions.

Garlic Crosses (R.Proseus/B.Castillo) - Winter 2001. Written about 3am-ish. Good indicator of where we were going, but we didn't take it as seriously then.

Inbred (B.Castillo)- Jan 2002 - Features my trademark humor.

Interlude (B.Castillo) - Jan 2002- Just part of a track I never finished.

Somber Tears (R.Proseus/B.Castillo) early 2002- Premade riffs until the end. That was my idea to interpolate the Hymn of the Fayth from Final Fantasy X and to put

the beats with the froggy snares in.

Vortex Deux (B. Castillo) Feb 2002...the middle section of this song is a harbinger to more familiar F2S moments.

Stairway to Heaven (cover) Spring 2002. I did this by myself in one night, just to see if I could

Carnival (R.Proseus) July 3,2002. Remember this song well, as I lost my job a day or so later. Raymond & I wrote it the new apartment Dana& I moved into, and

he & I wrote & nearly finished it that very day. On the way to Burger King, we started talking about "Frog & Beaver" being a stupid name. Thus, this song became

our first as "Sanity's Requiem". I still consider it the first TRUE Fear 2 Stop song.

Grafik Muzik (R.Proseus/D.Castillo) mid July 2002. First song written without me present, but Dana did her first contribution to the group.  We're just by now finding

our sound...the sliding bass that has become one of my trademarks was actually done by Dana.

Turmoil (B.Castillo) July 2002 Started off as a cover of Whole Lotta Love, but I got inspired to take it somewhere else, instead. Interestingly, Raymond ws writing

darker material at this time, yet my stuff was relatively poppy. That will....change when you hear the next volume...

Discussion / Who here would be interested...
October 12, 2010, 07:59:04 AM
...in a Fear 2 Stop biography post? If we ever end up with an actual career, our story would actually be a good book :D I'll even make like a compliation uploads thread for you guys to hear, like a TIMGUL exclusive type thing. The 3 of us have been working together for 9 years now with MG2, with occasional detours. I'll also thrown in some studio demos I did with other artists, possibly including a gospel type deal where I played drums and bass (poorly, I might add), or a studio recording of an electronica group where I sang backup and produced and mixed. We're trying to tally up the amount of songs we've written, but considering there's a suitcase filled of cassette tapes we've done, and there's 200+ songs on our Soundclick site alone, I think it's pretty safe to say there's probably somewhere between 350-400 songs that we've done...and that's not counting the covers!

What do you say?

"Path of Destruction"...this is from 2003
(written by B.Castillo/R.Proseus/D.Castillo) featuring all 3 of us. I cleaned up the sound, as the original had LOADS of tape hiss. This is going on the cd, and IMHO is in the top 5 of tracks we've ever done.

August 24, 2010, 06:42:37 PM
Hey guys, I'm back...past few months have been rough. As some of you may know, one of the founding members of Fear 2 Stop lost his wife a few months ago and i didn't think we would ever do any more recording, or we do it would be as a duo. Well, Raymond's doing better and will be working with us more, but Dana & I are still going to be recording new music. I'm doing better health-wise also (been having some issues over the past several years), so I'm ready to become active here again. I see a LOT of new stuff has been posted in my absence too, so looking forward to hearing it!

Other interests / Where I've been
May 24, 2010, 08:21:12 PM
I haven't been online much due to a recent tragedy. As most of you may  know, Fear 2 Stop was started 9 years ago by myself and my best friend Raymond ,later joined by my wife Dana. Since Raymond got married a few years ago, Dana & I have been doing most of the writing. He was planning to become more active recently. Unfortunately, now that may not be a consideration...his wife passed away a few weeks ago. Hilary was a close friend to Dana & I, and to be honest right now F2S isn't a high priority right now. We were about to release a cd, but that is on hold at this time.

I just wanted to make you guys aware of what's going on.

Rock/Metal/Pop / A Moment Alone
March 27, 2010, 04:32:32 AM
I wrote this song back when I was 11 (21 years ago!), as part of a concept album. I had all these melodies running through my head, and when I got Music Generator 2, I finally started to record them. In any case, this is one of those tracks. Recorded in 2002...one of these days I'll upload the whole album.

Rap/Hip Hop / Turmoil (old track from 2002)
January 21, 2010, 01:49:46 PM
This is an oldie...never been uploaded until now. This originally started off as a cover of "Whole Lotta Love", then a cover of "Immigrant Song"...then ended up being an original. My original goal back then was to eventually have somebody rap over it.

Fun fact...we recently remade this and the 2009 version is an outtake from the upcoming cd.
#32
This is a TIMGUL exclusive. I am not posting this anywhere else. Why? Because this is a track from the cd we are going to be putting out around the end of next month...and I mean from the actual *cd*, as opposed to an unmixed demo, like many of the tracks on our Soundclick page. Yep...the f*cker's going on sale soon...sort of. Details to come...

Anyway...this is a late inclusion, entitled "The Legend of Biff Butley". This is "just" an album cut, but it's not a filler track to say the least. Put a lot of work into this bad boy. Dana did a good portion of it, but I did my fair share, and Raymond had some parts in there as well also.

Comments are indeed welcome!

Experimental/Other / Mogwai Pot Pie
January 09, 2010, 08:29:19 AM
Sorry for posting a lot of stuff...all will be explained soon. Let's just say that right now I am planning to post an album in the albums section soon that is just for you all at TIMGUL...early Fear 2 Stop stuff that likely will never be available commercially, along with solo projects we've done, including production work I've done (I've gotten clearance from the people I recorded, as I'm not doing this for professional gain and none are still active musically...plus it was for college anyway).

This is from early 2002...a little poppier than you guys are used to from me. If this had been a finished song, it likely would've sounded much different than what you hear here.
#36
Okay, this is the first actual Fear 2 Stop song (having recently changed our name from Sanity's Requiem) in 2001. This was me & Raymond deciding to do a song inspired by the start of the conflict in Afghanistan. Excuse the tape hiss, but this was originally done on cassette tape.
#37
This is it...my 2nd ever song, only this time it is more representative of what was to come later.
#38
Yes, premade riffs (except the drum beat and one of the synth bass parts...see if you can spot it!), but this was my VERY FIRST attempt at making a song, using Music Generator for the PS1.

Enjoy!

My second ever song will be posted shortly, btw.

Experimental/Other / YOU pick/"write" the songs!!!!
October 30, 2009, 06:46:09 AM
Okay guys...something different this time around. What I did was just have the video composite cable hooked up so I could see what I was doing, otherwise the audio cables were hooked up straight to the computer, so that I could record. That also meant I couldn't hear what I was doing, just going by how I think it would sound. Also, to REALLY handicap things, I was listening to music on winamp on headphones while I was doing it. So, what is it?

I started part of a song. Then I started another song. In between, you hear frogs croaking. I kept that up. So , all throughout this track, there are various fragments of songs separated by ribbits. Your task? Pick which fragments are the best, then give some feedback on what I should do next.

The name of this track is called "Age of Asparagus".

I'm having to use a sendspace link as for some reason when I try to upload songs directly here it times out.

I had this song stuck in my head all day so I decided to do a cover of it just for shits & giggles. I apologize PROFUSELY about my vocals.... 1) I did it in it's original key  2) I'm a bit buzzed  3). I kinda fucked up on the rhythm as I was did the instrumental track by ear as opposed to using sheet music. 4) I sang along with the track as it was recording to my computer from my PS2 using my web cam as a mic  (which is why you can hear my tv in the background).

Just wrote & recorded this track just now...took a couple of hours to do. Got inspired after hearing some of the cool jams here.

Hope you guys like it...put a fair amount of work into it.

If the drums sound a bit weird, that's cause the snare sound actually came from something I sampled, not from MG2.

I probably will scrap the opening part, to be honest (the trucks trucks trucks part).

Originally done in 2002, I actually took the time to re-record it note by note...took a while to remember what each sample was. Thankfully I still had the original cassette tape...

A bit of an older track (from 2005)... we later used parts of this track for others songs.

This track by Raymond & myself lives up to it's name. Check out the FX in this track...played around with the pitch shifter, sample editor, and note parameters on this one.

Yeah...we've been real busy today. Oddly enough, both Dana & I *hate* gravy. Well, I don't mind the white gravy that goes on chicken fried steak, but, um...yeah.

This is pretty much Dana solo...one of the only times we ever used the pipe reverb, if not THE only time.

First, the original demo..

Now the final, finished version

Cleaned up the mix, and this version is in stereo, unlike the demo.

Now that I have my computer directly connected to my PS2 (or the other way around, choose your pick!) I can do more music. This is the latest F2S track for your enjoyment/amusement.

Song's not available anywhere else at the moment, although that may change depending on how you guys like it.

In case you wonder how we made the speech part at the beginning... Dana & I said the word "unicorn", then reversed it. We then pronounced phonetically exactly how the reversed version of that word sounded, then reversed THAT.

This is a cover of a Beach Boys song, entitled "Let Us go on this way" from the 1977 album Love You .
There is a slight skip, that's because the cassette that I had it taped on had a defect.
#82
Just tried doing this earlier today. Don't know what gave me this idea, but hopefully it will turn out to be a good one.
#83
This is a different mix of a song I wrote with Raymond , with this version appearing here only and nowhere else.

Hope you like it! We normally don't do this style, so hopefully you guys will like it...

This track contains my version of some songs from Final Fantasy 7 and is not available anywhere else. BTW, the shaker sound towards the end is a sample of me shaking a bottle of my kidney meds.

Enjoy!

This is another TIMGUL exclusive track. Maybe in the future I will put it elsewhere, but for now, here only.

Just finished this track earlier today...this is a TIMGUL exclusive, meaning you won't find it elsewhere.

This track was done by Raymond Proseus, who was my main collaborator in Fear 2 Stop before my wife began writing. That was me doing the zombie voice, though.

Raymond did most of the piano, I did everything else, including the tag. We went for a neo-classical type vibe with a bit of hip-hop thrown in, along with the usual madness & such.

One of the longest songs i've ever done... I would really like to hear somebody remix this. Went more for an uptempo, less weird sound this time.

Title inspired by a post elsewhere on the board (you know who you are).

Not sure exactly what category to put this in, it can be moved if necessary. This is me going for a club sound.

Last upload of the day. More farting, more crazyness. You Mg2 users will get a kick out of the opening.

And yes, those are two movie references in the title.

Experimental/Other / Durr! It's FRIDAY~!

Raymond did the one pretty much by himself, although it was Dana's idea to put the, ahem, "interesting" FX on there. Basically, I farted right as I was about to do, well, I can't remember exactly what I was supposed to do, but the MG2 sampler mic picked it up, so we messed around with it on the sample editor. This was the result.
