And Disc 03 Standard Edition is up! (*points to OP*)

Ultra Edition (all 36 tracks as a 222 minute-long mp3) will come out some time either Sunday or Monday.

(and in case you're wondering: ~222:00 = 3:32:00 :D)

Here's to a new day, a new year, a new decade. ;)

And Disc 03 Super Edition is finally out! (check OP)

I was going to have tracks 3.11 and 3.12 swapped around, but it just felt fitting this way.
Also I'll admit that some of the transitions aren't spot on.

Standard Edition will be mixed now. ;)
#64
Because I haven't got to that stage of mixing: All I can say is that it's 1:06:15. Shorter than the other two Discs, I'll admit. :-/

But honestly, it is mp3ing as I type, so I'm not bluffing here. :)

*I know "13" isn't the "official" title, SV, but I'll always know the song by that name. :P

I'm getting a distinct Hybrid vibe to it, and I'm liking very much.
Only gripe is that it's a little short at 2:17..
#67
Here's the way I set up the drums in Parabol(a). Chances are I should really have the toms going in the other direction, but I play instruments cackhanded anyway so it don't matter. :D
All samples are at 22kHz except the hats and cymbals which are at 44kHz.

Instr            Sample    Note       Pan         Volume
KickFloor it 1C0%255
Hat (open)Cheap openC50% Right153
Hat (closed)Cheap closedC50% Right075

Tom HIGHDryD100% Right255
Tom HI-MIDDryC50% Right255
Tom MIDAcousticD0% Center255
Tom LOWAcousticC50% Left255
Tom FLOORAcousticB (octave lower)100% Left255
Cymbal (Crash)*F#50% Right255
Cymbal (Ride)Ride Hit High(?)**C50% Left***

I should also mention that I did NOT put any reverb on these. One thing I've found is that, for a good studio sound, there should be NO reverb put on any of the drums. It makes it sound too echo-y. Leaving it on plain ol' Red Mono makes it sound a lot more natural.

* I can't remember off the top of my head.. it's originally from the default riff "Cymbal Hi Rite".
**It was either "Ride Hit High", "Ride Hit Mid" or "Ride Hit Low"... one of those
***I distinctly remember turning down the volume of this one, but I can't recall how far I turned it down.. I think as far as 075.

'Grats to Omni and Dutch for winning this. :)

I'm kinda glad I didn't win, to be fair.. mine was a cover/remix, which I guess meant I was marked down on originality. :P
But, good game, guys.

Also SV: It wasn't just "choral" that I used: I found that when used alongside "alternative", it sounds brilliant... case in point. :P Also, I thought I used a gritty enough synth ("bowow" and "Fuzzy Pop" simultaneously) and I might add some strings to it as well.. it'll make that ending that little extra special. (since I've done something similar in a WIP track I'm doing in Logic)

Now, I'm going under the assumption that most of you guys live outside the UK (as far as I'm aware, Dubya and CoLD are the only other ones that I know are UK-based), but this news is just too awesome to not pass on.

So, over here, we have this show on TV called "The X-Factor". Basically made to replace Pop Idol (or whatever "- Idol" you guys have. :P it's got Simon Cowell as a judge so you know what I'm talking about).
And for the past 5 years, they've had this thing where they've always taken the Christmas No.1 spot. I mean, it only makes sense... 19m people in the UK watch it and the single is released in the run up to Christmas.. so 19 million people can't be wrong... right?

Wrong.

Earlier this month, a couple from some corner of the UK set up a Facebook group to get Killing in the Name by Rage Against The Machine to Christmas No.1. Being a fan of rock/metal music and a hater of manufactured pop, naturally I joined and bought the song off iTunes. I mean, I'd rather have a somewhat old song that the musicians wrote themselves than a cover that was originally performed by Miley Cyrus. (Hell, the other songs from previous years weren't original songs either)

Well guess what.

WE FUCKING DID IT.
HELLL YEAH.

Made the record of being the first Christmas No.1 from downloads alone. And of course, being the greatest c-c-c-combo breaker of all time musicwise.

So without further ado, The current Top 10 singles this week. Note the lack of X-Factor (Joe McElderry) in the No.1 spot. :D

It's been a pleasure to take part.
I'd've got the thing finished last night but I was babysitting. D:
I'll just get the thing finished for YouTube whenever I can. ;)

Unsure whether I'll get the vocals for the second half done by the end date, so... as much as it pains me to hand in unfinished material, it'll have to do in case I don't get the final final version finished in time.

Here's mine so far. A complete note-for-note cover/remix of "Parabola" by Tool. Including the 3-minute intro "Parabol", with vocals, making the whole thing 9:18.
Made a minor change at one point (one riff should go in 15/8 but I added an extra half-beat because I wouldn't've been able to finish it otherwise.. that said, one bar of that same section had to have its tempo doubled because it was originally in 2/4. :D)

It's hardly Christmassy by any means (hell, I might end up switching this one for a remix of "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine... I hope some of you understand why I'd be doing that song for Christmas. :D)

If I do somehow get it completely finished by the 15th, I'll replace the unfinished with this one, mirror it on YouTube, and make a thread on it here. ;)

The guitar-replacement was a result of layering "choral" and "alternate" and panning them 50% opposite each other.
The bass was a result of layering "bowow" and "Fizzy Pop", the same samples from Phoenix (TIMGUL Hypermix Edit).
The drums were:
- Kick = Floor it 4
- Snare = Chunky
- Hats = Cheap Open/Close
I forget which ones the Crash and Ride Cymbals are.
- Toms = Dry & Acoustic.

The vocals were recorded by yours truly in Audacity.

Halfway through recording the vocals on mine.
Have to redo the second part because a) the recording clips and b) I fucked up royally at one point. :D
#73
Finally got round to uploading this onto YouTube (well, I couldn't find a suitable picture beforehand :P)
#74
..*wishes the batteries for his camera would hurry up charging so he can record his vocals*
#75
I'm in a similar boat: I actually record my vocals outside of Music 2000 since I run the program off an emulator (though I still use the official disc - it's just that my TV's only got one speaker whereas my computer has two)
#76
Having a little trouble with recording the vocals to my track.
Because of the way my desk is set up [link], I can't get my camera to make sure that 1) both me and the microhpone are in the camera shot whilst recording, and 2) my camera can pick up my voice fine. Well, 2)'s not a huge issue because I can use that for "backing vocals", but 1) is the main issue.
Bear in mind that the microphone cable's at full stretch where it is currently.. though I am working on that with the no budget I have (I've tried moving the camera from the pile-of-books-on-top-of-my-TV to balancing-on-a-juice-bottle-on-top-of-the-CD-stand-of-my-computer-desk - but I've been more "make-shift-camera-stand" than that in the past, I'll tell you that now. :D)

Song name: They Don't Know (...When You've Sold Your Soul)
File type: mp3 (attached)
Length: 5:17
Software used: Logic Pro 8
Description:

A couple weeks ago, we were given the choice of three vocal melodies and to build a track around it for an assignment at college; any style, any whatever. This was my submission. I felt it sounded empty with the one vocal sample, so I wrote and recorded my own lyrics and vocals over it. I'm not the greatest singer ever, I'll admit that. :D

Will soon be uploading this to YouTube.

Oh, one last thing: The intro (0:14 - 0:40), middle 8 (1:39 - 2:05) and bridge (3:05 - 3:30) are all in 7/4. The rest is in 4/4.

Style is quite odd: it has elements of Punk (with the heavy bridge section), Prog Rock (with the 7/4 and guitars), a little slice of techno (with the synths) and my vocal style... somewhat Pop-y. :P

Sort of an update on the track I've got prepped:
It is a cover/remix of a metal song and it doesn't really sound Christmassy. :-/
I've just got the vocals to record (and fix the sound levels on some of the riffs since they'd be too loud) - though I'm experimenting with the two microphones I've got and I'm going to try and record through my camera and my headset mic simultaneously; once I've got those recorded, I can go about editting the files together. It's just finding the time (since I don't like to record vocals when other people are in the house)

Also, whilst the song had to be split into two seperate files on the emulator's Memory Card (like the original), the first half takes up 1 block of Memory Card. The other? Four :D. (which is actually a record for me - mine are usually 1-2 blocks in size.. three if I'm lucky)

Hey, no worries. :)

(as far as "pro" goes, I wouldn't go as far as call myself a professional. ;))

As SV said, intriguing, but I tend to just say my stuff's released under the name of my "label" (since I did technically create the term on it, seeing as Google searches of it come back to me - my GimmeSound page, my BumpSlap account (which I stopped using the day it was registered :-/))
As for copyright, any free music is released (unofficially) through Creative Commons and any that I sell would be under a license similar to CC (since you can't sell music under Creative Commons)

Thanks for the links, anyway; I'm sure others wlll find it more suiting. :)
