this album would deserve an in depth review, but i couldn't say nothing more that's already been said...the entire album is soothing and full of grace, the production is flawless. i have to say that Essence Garden is the most remarkable track to me, a true gem (thanks again for showing me the potential of FL Keys long ago ;) )

well i just happened to drop by here and was quite captured by the title of this thread....what can i say, it just felt right to me to register again just to say that's truly unfortunate and sad news. for what is worth i just want to say i'm very sorry to hear that.

why don't you write down the duration time of each track so that we can try to guess which songs you picked.. maybe :D ;D
#26
hi, welcome here, we used to have at least one thread about this matter but i can't find it right now, i guess we'll have to write down the tips once again.
personally i use an external audio soundcard which is connected to the pc and to the playstation by the red&white RCA plugs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCA_connector) you normally use with the playstation itself. i know that other members here use different methods to record their songs so they can help you out with other suggestions :)

i like the idea of incorporating a flash/media player. if blonde and omni agree we can defo go for it.
#28
no ha can't continue because this way we're gonna ban him again and again and again.

since you seem to be interested in receiving suggestions other than normal feedback, let me give you some. the main melody is pretty good, that is a soft key c3/c4 i guess. well that riff cries out for a dancey bassline to accompany it; the 'dancer' bass sample is always the best choice in these cases but there are other good bass samples which can be effective.
then i recommend to use a crash cymbal sample (class crash, long mute, crash expected etc) for the transitions between a riff and another, also 'backwards' cym might help. the soft key sample needs a tad more reverb. the phaser effect you applied here and there is nice. try to reduce a bit the volume of the ride cymbal sample. watch out for the popping effect afflicting the bassline. i also recommend to add some pads, since the overall sound is a bit empty if you know what i mean. ask bliss how to create a great string arrangement to accompany the lead melody, he's a master at creating harmonies for strings. i like a lot the vocal sample.

i hope you find this useful :)

Well there was certainly a lull but now its just xmas, I dont think people have time to sit around all day during the holiday period.
Simple fact is if you dont post your tunes no one will ever listen. Rather than moan about it deal with it, if a tune drops down the lists simply bump it back up. Sometimes things can get missed.

I feel you would get more honest feedback here rather than elsewhere where everyone just says YAY 5 stars so you will listen to there tunes to promote them. We had an ex member just like that. All about self promotion not giving a shit about anyone else.

So, keep posting, if you do not get feedback, dont post more, bump them up. Too many people post miles too many songs at once.
Things will pick up.

i couldn't find better words myself.

btw i promise i will remember to leave more comments on your songs (in fact i do listen to them, i think i have collected them all). don't lose your motivation, keep on training and learning all the tricks you need to know to be a top producer like bliss or pillage, and once you get to that point people will just crave to comment your songs.

the more i listen to your stuff the more i can appreciate your skills, which are crazy. being able to blend toghether so perfectly so many different samples with MG software is defo something special. why don't you upload your mp3s? i'd like to have them.

that's awesome!! i mean, this present goes well beyond my expectations!! i love all your music and this limited edition makes me feel very proud about being part of this competition and a member of this whole fantastic community. i hope this is going to be the first of a long and glorious series of competitions, i look forward to it. long live TIMGUL (and Tim :D)!
#33
thanks for your comments guys.
@blonde and DJRyznup: that's not a guitar! i know it sounds like it, but in fact it is a synthetic sound which i altered with an extreme distortion. in the final version of the remix i'd love to include a real electric guitar.

i've just uploaded an improved version of my remix which now includes also the poets 2. i've also uploaded a couple of yt links where you can hear the original soundtrack. don't miss them if you are nostalgic fans of the original game!

i finished uploading my sixth record, Sacrovirgo. In case you are interested, just send me a request by pm and i'll send you the links.

congrats to the winners (they really deserve the prize) and to all who entered, and of course thank you tim for taking the time to listen to our songs, for being the judge of this competition (delicate role indeed, i can easily understand how tough it was to pick only 2 songs) and for your genuine interest in our community. i look forward to holding many other contests in the future and having you as a judge (or a competitor maybe, i look forward to it aswell ;)) would be once again an immense honour for all of us.

now that the winners have been proclaimed i'd like to post some of my thoughts about each entry:

cold storage: lovely anthem, it sets perfectly the mood of the contest. so cute, so sweet, adorable.

dj droppin: splendid song, dark and ominous, yet chrismassy nevertheless. as everyone pointed out, simply majestic intro. exceptional pad and strings. hard to find weak points in this song, if i had to i'd say i don't like the kick sample on the FHT section, too punchy for my tastes. apart from that, we are talking about a masterpiece here. one of my fav entries for sure.

fear2stop: incredible variety, there's so much going on. nice structure. my fav part is between 1.58 and 2.20. good perc work, lots of funny oddities according to F2S trademark sound.

casper: this song gets better and better when all the riff come together during the song. i like in particular the blip bloops of the second half and the pads, nice bassline too. the opening and the ending are a bit rough but that's not a major flaw. good song.

the lyricist: i can definitely notice an improvement comparing this song to 'the seal is broken'. those weird effects heve witten 'audacity' all over them, pretty nice. nice beats too. watch out for that popping effect afflicting the bassline. i like the experimental attitude.

the love bandit: it is clear that this song has been made by a skilled and expert producer. not very chrismassy by any means but good.

JCW: very minimal sounding, the attention is focused on the pounding beat. nice retro sound, those oldskool chords samples bring back memories.

sacred virgo: i won't comment on this guy's song since his music sucks way too much.

blonde justice: not exactly the funniest entry but hey, who cares since it's a great song, so emotional and heartfelt. it could be a perfect a perfect theme for a tragic scene in a J-RPG game. lo-fi sounding (i love that), this could be easily included in a FF OST, which is the ultimate compliment in my eyes.

dj omnimaga: so cheerful, funny and chrismassy, i love this song, it keeps growing on me. i'm not exactly a big fan of hardcore music, but this reminds me of eurodance too and that little melody is so catchy i can't help loving it. when i listen to this song i feel like it's 1994 again.

master dutch: words cannot express how impressed i am by this song. i mean, the bells, the strings, the beat, the choirs, the chimes, everything, is stunning. vocal samples are extraordinary. the ending is just crazy, i love it. superior sampling skills, i wonder where did you find all those samples. this might be my fav entry. merry trippy xmas everyone who appreciates this song as much as i do.

NaN: this is probably the most complex song among all the entries. crazy (in a good sense) attempt at remixing such a complex song, only you could try that. well, the rendition of the drums is pretty good, in particular the toms are remarkable. the choral sample replacing the guitar workss nicely, if i were you i would have added synstring c1 and a gritty synth bass like nasty 1, 2 or 3. too bad you ran out of time. this can be a very good song when it's complete.

J-MACHine: very ethereal and dreamy. nice soft sounding kick, hihats and triangle (it is a triangle, isn't it?). fitting vocal sample. good song.

nakamura: as you know this is my fav song from you so this xmas edit obviously makes no exception. simply perfect production, bittersweet melody, those strings are made in heaven. too bad you couldn't complete your 'true' entry, but this is a worthy substitute indeed.

spacekid: broken robots strike back and they're so cool as usual. it would have been a shame not to have this song as an entry for the contest. great external samples, so many different sounds perfectly merged together. this song cries out for a real electric guitar to replace the 'flatt' sample. with an electric guitar this would be excellent.

dj ryznup: while listening to this song i could never imagine you had to rush to post it right on time. great string work at around 2.50. very good beat. i'd love to hear some vocals in here, how about adding them? i mean customised vocals, not premade ones. good song.

haha, funny initiative! choosing such a song was ironic and smart, charts around the world are just flooded by 'manufactured pop' (great definition indeed) and the X-factor show is responsible for promoting the ugliest radio-friendly pop bullshit you can ever imagine. here in italy we have the same tv format, just copied and pasted from the uk. the entrants, who are basically always good looking and smiling, are judged by three arrogant idiots pretending to be expert of music (of course they are, however their knowledge is all about the music industry, i guess they are barely aware that such thing as underground music even exists).

btw, other timgul members are from the uk, didn't you know? bliss, pillage, nak, johnp just to mention some

i have to say i'm not that surprised about the qualities of this song, as imo it features all the typical characteristics of your previous ones: 1 an extremely good lead melody (which in this case is more epic than usual) and lots emotion to it 2 a minimal sounding arrangement (a bit too minimal for my tastes, but as nak says it's just a matter of personal choices) 3 minor flaws concerning volume levels (i'd say the arps here are a bit loud).

all in all this is definitely a good song, with a huge potential, one of those songs i'd like to remake one day.

Experimental/Other / Re: Bass....from Another World

i'd just say 'back to the roots'. i agree with phil, this sounds like a classic Bass Launch song, it includes all the typical elements that make your sound so unique and immediately recognisable. of course i mean multiple layers, exceptional attention to details, pounding beat and bassline, and all your usual fav samples. so this song is obviously another classic. once again a solid effort from you.
how about using the Bass Launch name for bass music and DJ Droppin for FHT? just a thought ;)

Other Music related Discussion / Re: Comments On Tracks
December 15, 2009, 05:07:15 PM
good topic here lyricist. i have a couple of considerations to express. i'm a huge fan of constructive criticism but i admit sometimes i have to keep myself from leaving suggestions (which i always consider useful) in order to avoid being considered arrogant and cocky. some guys here are well known for their hate of constructive criticism while others (including me) are well known for their apppreciation of honest and direct comments. imo the problem is, most of the time I/we don't know which is the best thing to do, because you never know how other people may react. so that probably prevents people from being rude but also it disencourages comments.
you have to consider also that a suggestion is useful if the listeners do understand which is your intent with a certain song. your tracks are very experimental and that's why i often couldn't tell if some of your ideas are the result of a long, well thought-up masterplan or maybe they are just the consequence of lack of experience. if i knew which is your intent with a song (how you would like it to sound like...) i could be way more helpful with my comments and i guess all the other listeners would.
