spacekid, i'm still trying to make my way through those 70+ songs you posted in your collection and now you say you are back to production? give me a break!

lol, just (space)kiddin, welcome back mate
#262
the death is still not confirmed by all the sites but anyway this is still kinda shocking
#263
thanks for the interest everyone. the problem is that my fav ones are the incomplete ones, so maybe the best solution would be to send you a selection including a couple of completed songs from each album. almost every album has its own peculiar style, then maybe a selection could help you to find the album you consider most interesting
#264
i heard that B - ambient sucks, but i say let's just be tolerant with him!
#265
then welcome tba (tba --> ?) and looking forward to hear from this noob called B - ambient ;D just do not forget that i'm still waiting 4 pillage's unmixed record and 'fanfare remix'

very very interesting after a quick listening. finally i have the chance to hear a good number of songs from you
#267
my favourite ones are 6,11,13,14,15. 1,2,3 are seriously crappy right now. 9 and 15 are miles away from completition. 8 is the only one which can be considered truly completed, so i guess it could be a good starting point. but considering only the completed ones (1-8) maybe you would prefer 6.

but now you're probably more confused than before, lol

Lost songs (MUSIC/MTVMG) / Terminal - Reactor
March 04, 2009, 10:34:21 AM
I've probably bored you to death with my previous ambient releases, so here is a more upbeat track. I'm not completely sure if this is the correct category. I'm not even sure about the genre of this song, i consider it some kind of big beat, but please feel free to correct m if you know a more specific definition.

so this is track 4 of my 8th album, Ultimaelectrica. it was started in 2003 and finished in 2008.

my first source of inspiration for this song was 'loops of fury' by the chemical bros. another source of inspiration was the entire experience of playing the wipeout 2097/XL game.

my opinion: i think this song is nicely produced. i am particularly proud of the ending section. the bass and the beats are ridicolously huge and galvanizing. however the song is probably a bit too long (especially in the opening) and repetitive (but that's probably a typical characteristic of the genre itself). so what do you think about it?

#270
that is a noble intention. i'm gonna try either. only the brave...!  8)

Lost songs (MUSIC/MTVMG) / Re: * Time To Say Goodbye *

well i can't say if this is your best song ever because i haven't listened to many songs of yours yet.
well all can i say for now is that the production is fantastic, nothing less than perfect. the song is also great by the artistical point of view. maybe the portion of the song between 0'27'' and 2'12'' is a bit too long in my opinion. nevertheless, an amazing effort.

However for that I would need to make posts for this category only be viewable by myself so people won't see each other's votes.

i still think that it would be a better thing if the votes were public. everyone could be able to verify the correctness and the politeness of the results. however please omni notice that i fully trust you. it is not a question of trust, it is a question of politeness in absolute terms.
of course, like i said before, the public votes could be a problem, because some hot-headed guys could be envious and could start fighting each other. they could flame saying idiot things like "hey as***le, why haven't you voted for me?! i'm not gonna vote your songs either!!".

let's just hope this is not the case.

@DJRyznup: thanks for being my personal english translator, man! you're quite good at it!  :)

up here i suggested to write explicitly the name of the 3 (or 4 - 5- 99, if you prefer) favourite songs of each member.

oh my, sorry for my poor english. what i wanted to say here is (just like i've said in the previous post): i suggested that each member shouls write explicitly the name of his (3-4-5-whatever) favourite songs for every single musical category.
#274
ok omni, i do understand some of your points, but i can't understand other points.

f.e., i just can't see where lies the problem in the matter of preventing people voting fot their own songs. up here i suggested to write explicitly the name of the 3 (or 4 - 5- 99, if you prefer) favourite songs of each member. i think this would encourage the transparency and the politeness of the poll. you probably fear that transparency might turn into aggressiveness and reciprocal hostility. yes, that would be possible. well i think that the first requisite, and very first rule of this contest, should be the use of the good sense (or the common sense, call it like you prefer) by the forum members. just as nakamura said before, as long as we are intelligent and we behave properly, this is gonna work anyway.

about the '99 songs question', you're probably right. however that example showed clearly an extreme case, which should be quite unlikely. in any case we should definitely think more about it.

it is true, SOTM would probably be a burden for those who are responsible for it. and the process of posting again the songs seems quite redundant to me.

i'm gonna think again about these unsolved questions. i think other guys should do the same and help us with some more ideas
#275
here are some proposals for the rules of SOTM:

1 each forum member can vote 3 songs for each musical genre. the first one gets 3 pts, the 2nd one gets 2 pts, the 3rd one gets 1 point.

2 no one can vote his own songs (for obvious reason)

3 if a member uploads (for example) 99 songs in the same category (f.e. techno/trance), other members should be allowed to vote only one of those 99 songs from that artist. if not so, that artist would have too many chances of winning the contest in that specific category, and it would be unfair.

4 on the contrary, other members should be free to vote songs from the same artist which are not included in the same category. preventing people to compete in all the different musical categories would be a rule too strict. i also think thatif you agree with this proposal of rule here members would be encouraged to try different musical styles, which is quite good.

5 if the number of partecipants in a specific category (f.e. rock category) is not at least 3, well, i think we should pass over it and be free to vote more than one song from the same artist.

-as for the contest of 2008, i'll leave entirely the decisions to you, because i wasn't there back then.

-i would like to give another suggestion: i would not create a topic for each month's poll, it would be too complicated and quite redundnt. instead i would create a huge topic called (f.e.) 'best of 2009': every member could spontaneously post his own favourites for each category (of course within the stated terms), specifying the month they are referred to just by adding a title to their reply. that would prevent from creating too many new topics.

here i go with an example: there are 3 members (omnimaga, shell, shaka) and 2 categories (f.e.: dnb, rock)

OMNIMAGA - SOTM MARCH 2009

dnb category:

1 place: AAAA (song title)  --> 3 pts
2: BBBB  --> 2 pts
3: CCCC --> 1 pt

rock:

1: VVVV  ---> 3 pts
2: XXXX ---> 2 pts
3: YYYY --> 1 pt

SHELL - SOTM MARCH 2009

dnb:

1: BBBB
2: DDDD
3: AAAA

rock:

1: ZZZZ
2: XXXX
3: YYYY

SHAKA - SOTM MARCH 2009

dnb:

1 EEEE
2 CCCC
3 BBBB

rock:
1: YYYY
2: ZZZZ
3: XXXX

total results:

dnb:

AAAA: 3+1
BBBB: 2+3+1  --> winner
CCCC: 1+2
DDDD: 2
EEEE: 3

rock:

VVVV: 3
XXXX: 2+2+1
YYYY: 1+1+3
ZZZZ: 3+2

---> poll between XXXX, YYYY and ZZZZ

what about that?

A topic where ppl post their top 3 (or 10?) favourite tracks on the website could be good too

i've just had an idea about it. every month we could hold a contest to elect the best song uploaded during that month. every member of the forum could vote (for example) 5 different songs in a definite order: the first placed song would obtain 5 pts, the 2nd one 4 pts, etc. then it could be possible to calculate each song's score to appoint the best song of the month. then we could also create a competition to elect the 'best song of the year', simply choosing the best song between the 12 songs of the month (12 pts to our first choice, 11pts to our 2nd choice, etc).
of course we should create some simple rules that not allow to pick up more than 2 songs from the same artist, or something like that.
i think this could be easily become a classic, traditional feature of this forum, unless we do not take this kind of 'competition' too seriously. how about it?

yeah i had the same impression, this tune (like a lot of other songs from gorex) seems to be perfect as soundtrack for an old school videogame. they really remind me the battle themes of the old final fantasy games, which is nice to me.

MUSIC series discussion / Re: A question about metal.
February 23, 2009, 03:56:47 PM
hi gorex, welcome.
about creating rock music with music geneator i would like to say this: in my humble opinion our beloved software is simply inadequate to simulate a good, realistic sound of a real guitar. it doesn't depend on your ability or experience. the guitar is probably the most complex instrument which a software can emulate, so it's not a matter of 'good combinations' of guitar string samples with the most appropriate effect.
as for the emulation of the real sound of the drums i think that music generator is pretty good, especially music 3000, which has very good samples that are not included in the previous games. for the kickdrum, i recommend gated and mid wet. for the snare i recommend chunky, splashy, rock hat. for the cymbals i recommend dribble, crrashed, classic crash, crashespect, megacym, rideithigh, rideitlow. the hihats are not that important, there are a lot which can be used. for the toms i recommend acoustic, big wet, dry, gate tom 2

Lost songs (MUSIC/MTVMG) / Anti-Graav
February 22, 2009, 12:01:23 PM
here's my second upload. it is another ambient/experimental tune. it's also track 9 of the last record i've completed, which is called Ultimaelectrica.

About Anti-Graav:
I think i started working on this song in 2003. back then the essential features of this song were a huge breakbeat and an aggressive bassline (!!). Just like almost every song from Utimaelectrica, it was split into two sections. during the following years i tried many times to complete the second section but the results were totally disappointing. so i decided to eliminate the beat in the second half of the song and to focus more on the melody. In 2007 the song was finally completed, but still i wasn't satisfied by the content of the song. with a sudden decision i trashed almost everything in the first section and started again nearly from ground zero. the only thing left from the original song is the arco string riff which you can hear at 1'53'' and 2'03'', i left this riff as a memento. i completed the 'new' song quickly fo my standards, it took me less than a month. In this new version this tune is meant to be a peaceful intermission between more upbeat songs.

My opinion: i really enjoy this one. though it is not as immediately catchy as Spiaggia Lunare, i think it is more original and somehow more sophisticated. the production is also way better, but that's beacause of the splendid reverb of music2000. a song like this, beacause of its characteristics, could never be considered as a highlight of a record or a possible grounbreaking single: for this reason i feel a special sympathy for it, though i do not consider it one of my best songs.

When that reversed cymbal first came in i was expecting it to bust out a big stomping beat!
Excellent work mate. Really enjoyed it.

LOL the only thing that busts out is a bunch of synstrings and swarm of reso-crickets! anyway we all know how aggressive they can be!  ;D

To create this song i used these sounds:
Music 3000: amby, breath bell, janglings, piano c5, resocricket, rev cym, synchime, synstringc4, tubular, wave crash.
Extra samples: one ocean sample, a crappy seagulls sample, a sample of some seabird from an album by FSOL.

Behind the scenes of Spiaggia Lunare:
I created this song on music3000 in a couple of hours, which is really unusual to me. It was 5th april 2005, so you can figure out where the name comes from. At that time a good friend of mine, a talented photographer,  was launching his first website. He asked me to come to his place to create some musical background for the homepage. He wasn't satisfied by my work and I was really pissed off. Before leaving, I made him listen to some of my most recent songs. He really enjoyed this one. He came up with the idea to create a special widescreen page dedicated to the best photos with musical background. We reviewed the photos until we found one which matched perfectly the atmosphere of the song. The photo, of course, was called 'spiaggia lunare' (which in Italian means 'lunar beach').
After a few days he suddenly phoned me: "I'm gonna launch the website this evening, you have to complete the song and record it by then". I told him: "I need some extra wave sound and a sample of seagulls. It's extremely important". He sent me the sounds in the late afternoon so I had no more than 2 hours to complete the song. The seagull sample was a real pain in the ass, because it was 15 seconds long and I wanted to apply it to a song which is 1min20sec long, so I had to split the sample and then modify the various  pieces to make them sound different from each other. I also added a tiny sample of a seabird from FSOL's 'dead cities' album (BTW I love that record); I modified it to make it sound somehow melancholic. I call it 'the sad seagull', you can hear it at 00.16". finally, I added a better reverb to the awful one of music3000. however, I made it, just in time. Ironically, I don't know if the website it's still there, I've never checked it out recently.

My opinions: I think this is a solid ambient tune, but I don't think that the production is that great. If I could have done it with mtvmg2 rather than the crappy music3000 it would have been much, much better. The lack of time and the poor quality of the seagull sample make me think that the production is far from being flawless. I can do better than that. I'm going to put off a remake of this song someday. Not in the close future, though
