Lost songs (MUSIC/MTVMG) / Untitled
August 23, 2009, 10:02:16 PM
Hey guys. Here is a track from my "mid" years. My early years being Music/M2k on PlayStation, mid years being M2k on PC, current years being FL Studio & M2k :). So this is a track from when I was working purely on M2k on PC, before I had even heard of FL.

I don't think I ever came up with a name for it, so it's just "Long Mad Electro" lol. But here it is :)

Non-MUSIC/MTVMG / [dead thread]

Hey guys, I have come to realise that, for me, the term "songs" is not always an accurate description for certain musical creations. Thus I have adopted this concept...

"Songs" feature vocals. Not just the odd brief vocal sample, but whole phrases. Take the classic Trance track "Cafe del Mar" - no vocals. To me, it just does not feel right calling it a "song". Where as something by Cascada would be considered a song.

"Tracks" are non-vocal music. They may feature the occasional vocal samples, but otherwise it is just music. Drums, bass, guitars, synthesisers, samples, etc. Cafe del Mar is a track.

"Pieces" is a term I use to refer to music that is beatless; features no drums; rhythmless (for instance, you would not feel the automatic desire to toe-tap); time(signature)less; may incorporate vocals (sung less traditionally, and used more as an instrument, so no lyrics as such). Generally speaking this could be considered Ambient music. NOT Chillout music, like the kind featured on albums like this...

...because that does have rhythm, time and beats/drums. And it grabs your attention. But I am talking about the kind of Ambient music that Brian Eno pioneered. Music that is not designed to grab your attention, instead, sits in the background, so some of the time you forget it's there, and yet you are still affected by the calm it creates. Something like the music on Brian Eno's "Ambient 1: Music For Airports"...

Finally, "Non-Music" is a term I would use to describe music that, in fact, features very little ACTUAL music at all. It would mostly be just nature sounds (birds, jungles, water, wave crashes, waterfalls, crickets, other animals, atmospheres and environments, of which M2k has quit a selection of) and other sound effects. Music that is not music. :)

What do you guys think?

TPT - Your stuff is very much in the Chiptune genre. I love the Mario-like blippy sounds!

EDIT+ subtle elements of Aphex Twin too. Always a good thing.

Ok :) awesome. I know all about personality clashes on forums. So I just avoiding getting personal with people on them now, and stick to just involving myself in what the forum is about.

As I have said elsewhere on this forum, I join Music 2000 and FL Studio together in making my music. I have a tonne of the M2k samples saved as .wav files so I can load them into FL.

Where can I find some of your music?

Thank you very much :)
Some of the samples are from Music 2000 but it's all done in FL Studio.

Downtempo / Re: B - ambient

OH MY GOD! Amazing!!!!!!

The "blippy" melody at the start reminded me majorly of some of BT's work. Then the drums blew me away and I thought "Chicane!!!!". And yet it's very much your own style. Very nice!!! I love the happy/uplifting melody! I am a sucker for happy songs and this hits the spot perfectly.

PillageMyVillage: You have only one feeling to feel about this song - PRIDE!!!!!

The pads... the various melodies... the drums... the atmospheres... the mood........ all of it....

PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for bringing this into the world!

[EDIT] I could, without a doubt, here this on one of those classic Euphoric Chillout Breakdown albums alongside the likes of:

Energy 52's "Cafe del Mar (Michael Woods Remix)" and
Solar Stone's "Seven Cities (Ambient Dub)" and
Lustral's "Everytime (Way Out West's Sunrise Mix)".

Wow I love it!!!!!!! Amazing. While I think the inclusion of the two pre-made synths work well, I think they add too much of an "Electronic" sound to an otherwise natural/ethnic/authentic soundscape. Yet their rhythm adds something wonderful to the track.

Great :)

Well that is sad, I hope to contribute more than just my own music.

I love receiving feedback and tend to share feedback too on YouTube so I will try to do the same here.

I intend to sell my music but I also love doing remixes just for the fun of it (as obviously I cannot sell them).

:) I empathise with your feeling on how people tend to be a bit greedy. But let's not let the rest of us stop being our happy, sharing selves :)

@rikki:i'd like to hear your remix of the tomb raider theme (there's another one on the site).  i love that theme (as well as the game) so i'd really like to listen to your version.

Sure - I will upload it now :)
It is the theme from the first Tomb Raider game that I remixed. It is incredibly minimal chillout version with very little going on but I think that compliments it. I did this remix because I dearly love the harp melody <3 I would like to hear the other version on here if possible :) I'm not sure if I have finished my version yet. I did it FL Studio but most of the music was created from samples from Music 2000 :)

Anyone else ever had problems with two specific files - namely "Hardcore 3" in the kickdrum section and "Sample Hold" in the Pad-Softsynth section?

Any time I have used these in tunes in the past the ".m2k" file become corrupt and wouldn't work.

Introductions / Hi guys!

So I have already posted a couple of messages but I figured I would introduce myself here.

I am Rikki, 23 from Kent, England. I use Music 2000 and FL Studio to make my music. I have Colour>Sound Synaesthesia (I see colours and shapes in my head when listening to music).

I wanted to ask - is this forum still busy? I would like to participate in this forum to share ideas, music and tips with people - but I read a "goodbye" thread from another member saying it's a bit dead lately... kind of discouraging?

??

It is not what you have, it is how you use it that counts.

I started out on Music 2000, and now use FL Studio. But I haven't forgotten my roots. In fact, I love my roots. I still use Music 2000 by using like, LOADS of the samples from it and utilizing them in FL.

In fact, I recently did a remix of "Philes" from the original Music, in FL Studio. I love sitting and staring at the Music 2000 layout and reminiscing.

The fact is, Music/2000 contains a countless number of superb samples. And I have got some great results when using them in FL.

My question to the haters: why seperate, when you can join together and get a better result?

Thank you Shellshaka :) I appreciate your comments.

I am a little bit uncertain of uploading my original compositions since I have already started selling my music online but I will see if there's a way I can share some of my stuff, perhaps in samples or something. I would like more feedback. :)

Hi guys, I have uploaded my remix of CoLD SToRAGE's Philes, from the original "Music".

Made in FL Studio 8, using all the original samples from the original mix as I have and still utilize Music 2000.

I welcome feedback :) thanks guys, I hope you enjoy it!

Yay thank you :) I will upload my remix.

I found Tim's CoLD SToRAGE email address on his website (and also joined his Facebook group) so I emailed him a  copy of my remix and asked what he thought :)

MUSIC series discussion / A bit of a long shot, but...
August 15, 2009, 01:59:20 PM
Hi guys I am new here, I started off making music with Music/Music 2000 and these days use FruityLoops. I still use Music 2000 as a source for samples as most of the samples are superb.

I want to make a remix of CoLD SToRAGE's "Freedom", but I don't know where my PlayStation is, so is it at all likely that anyone could help me out? I need the note/chord arrangements for the main Synth Pad melodies and also the String sections.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Rikki

PS: I have already made a remix of Philes which Tim said he really liked :) yay me. Would I be able to post it on this forum?
