:S This keeps happening, when I take a track into Audacity and fade it out, when playing back in iTunes it just cuts the end from the point I faded it out! So irritating! Should actually be 9:55.

Thanks so much for the detailed review NaN! Really appreciate it!
That breakdown was intended to come after an extended build up. Do you think it works where it is? Or should it have come sooner?

Regarding compression! I am really struggling with it - trying to work it out for each track I produce. I used the basic Fruity Compressor and used the preset "Complete Mix" setting. Which turned it up. Because I can't work out how to do my own settings and it's driving me mad :'( I tend to sit there and get impatient and just want it done quickly, I don't take the time to properly learn.

Then from there I take my tunes into Audacity and do a little technique I learnt from a site - normalize the tune (which actually ends up turning it down  :S ) - then adding a High Pass filter with the cutoff frequency being 60hz. Then I try to doing further compression but I don't really know what I'm doing.

If you know about compression please help me because I am going out of my mind with it :( makes me feel like getting that perfectly levelling is just out of my reach and that I will never get my tunes perfect. When loading someone else's tune into Audacity (a commercial tune I mean, such as Oceanlab's Clear Blue Water) it all looks mostly level except for the parts of the tune where it is just ambient pads and no epic drums/synth/bass. But in my tunes the levelling looks all over the place? Do I just suck at levelling or do I just need to take more time to learn compression???

Pleeeeeeease help :'(

Thanks again for the review - I am really pleased you like the tune.
What is OCReMix?

Anyone remember how there was that lovely, emotive tune in Sonic The Hedgehog 2? Here it is:

Ya it was to be the theme to the scrapped "Hidden Palace Zone" level.

Check out my attached remix :D

It hasn't - I reported the pointless message by "alsoforum" who seems to randomly post meaningless jibberish once every few months :S

I uploaded some of my rap tracks on myspace some time ago, but since I lost the possibility to record further vocals (only temporary) I didn't visit or change the site, so it's all a little bit out-dated.retail software boxcuttlebug machineFor all those who are curious (and I would be happy about some friend invitations, only if you like  :D)

PS - which sample did you use for the "little bit of portamento-slide acid"

Jellyfish Jazz Club
Very nice rhythm, and awesome bassline!!!!!!
Oh my god I TOTALLY love the little bit of portamento-slide acid! So quirky, adding some real nice flavour to the tune, is quite reminiscent of some early, classic house stuff - would like to hear it with a bit of delay on it!
Awesome job on the additional melody at 2:25 - I really like how you arrange your melodies in such a funky way.
Excellent piece!

OH FUCKING HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the drums that start coming in at 1:10! The snare has this lovely....smooth, slick tone to it. Nice, snappy rhythm. Lovely percussion fleshes it out. Nice subtle synthy bit in the background. This is quite Leftfield-y. Fucking lovely stuff!! The sound effects and percussion all blend together and rub themselves all over my sound buds in the most seductive way! Wow just superb!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice one Jimmy.

Nice drums. I like the moody atmospheric pad behind the chords at the start...really reminiscent of trip hop.
What made me smile was that this was immediately followed, on my iTunes, by DJ Shadow's "What Does Your Soul Look Like? - part 1, blue sky revisit" - a nice mix that I can imagine would be even better with the finalised version of your tune.

Hello everyone, I am back.

HOW IS EVERYONE?!?!?!?!

I have some exciting news, which can be received here:

So basically yeah, I am on a contract with two distributors, and I am now my own label. I have redesigned my logos and am redesigning my site to coincide with this exciting new venture :D

( I discovered the "glass text" technique using Photoshop to add an edge to my logos :P )

Thank you for your support :D

SO ANYWAY! What has been happening here? Is Rob back?

Experimental/Other / Re: Drifted

I know what you mean about the clicky sounds... it is a drawback of MUSIC, I think a suitable work around is SLIGHTLY altering the ADSR envelope on each note so the ATTACK is quick but smooth, not quite so instant...I dunno?
I love this piece. I actually think the clicks add a nice effect, if unintentional, reminds me very much of the start of Aphex Twin's "Yellow Calx" - this whole tune does actually.

All the warm and soft melodies blend together so well, even though some of them are a bit out of the blue, random or have an agenda of their own - I think that is what makes the technique work and blend so well.

Experimental/Other / A Thousand Secrets new and old
October 10, 2010, 09:03:05 PM
Hey guys I am working on revising one of my old tunes "A Thousand Secrets". I have no idea what genre/category to put this under.

I decided I need to fatten up the drums.

I am attaching both the original and the new version - please compare and tell me what you think. I am asking for actual constructive criticism as this is a work in progress and I need to know what people think of the new version COMPARED to the old version.

Thanks guys!
