Video Game/Film Soundtracks / REPONSES PLEASE
June 15, 2011, 04:20:48 PM
So I submitted my remix of Sonic 2's Hidden Palace Zone theme to OCRemix - after shortening it by editing some areas to fit OCRemix's size limits - and I recently heard back from them... they shot it down :( here is their review:

"Neat track to work with, and you have some good ideas, but right now the song isn't developed enough, with a lot of areas that are very sparse.  The overall interpretation on the melodies is low as well, I'd suggest focusing on those two areas first.  Production and sounds overall are ok, but they could honestly be better as well.  I'd suggest using our WIP forums to get some more feedback."

What do you guys think?

I have attached the edited version that I sent them.

Hello everyone, I am back.

HOW IS EVERYONE?!?!?!?!

I have some exciting news, which can be received here:

So basically yeah, I am on a contract with two distributors, and I am now my own label. I have redesigned my logos and am redesigning my site to coincide with this exciting new venture :D

( I discovered the "glass text" technique using Photoshop to add an edge to my logos :P )

Thank you for your support :D

SO ANYWAY! What has been happening here? Is Rob back?

Experimental/Other / A Thousand Secrets new and old
October 10, 2010, 09:03:05 PM
Hey guys I am working on revising one of my old tunes "A Thousand Secrets". I have no idea what genre/category to put this under.

I decided I need to fatten up the drums.

I am attaching both the original and the new version - please compare and tell me what you think. I am asking for actual constructive criticism as this is a work in progress and I need to know what people think of the new version COMPARED to the old version.

Thanks guys!

I love the variety we now have on TIMGUL

Two artists making good urban beats - dutch and koolass! And I LOVE the attitude they have :P

Two artists making good rock - knowlesy and danthrax

and the whole host ambient, house, trance, drum n bass etc!!

Whoever electronic music, rock music and urban music cannot go hand in hand?

This forum is SO hot that if I had tits made of cheese they would be melted onto a nice pizza for us all!

Albums / Grey Area, by White Origins
August 18, 2010, 08:18:47 PM
"Grey Area" by White Origins
"This album is designed with the intention of creating a space in which you can become in touch with yourself. Stop, Listen, Be."
ambient; electronic; chillout. MADE USING [fruityloops 9, music 2000, audacity]

...listing the pieces...

1 - "99"
At a tempo of 99 BPM, however this is redundant since there are no beats or even a rhythm
Like relaxing on bubbles while your skin sips the sea
>> waves, whales, bubbly sounds, pad and dolphins from MUSIC 2000

2 - "Firelight"
The first piece I ever made and the only piece I put on iTunes
entrancing and enchanting, like a flame

3 - "The Inertia Of A Calm Evening"
Inspired by sitting in my living room looking out at a dusky evening and witnessing that the only movement was the trees gently swaying in the wind in the distance
Meditative but very deep
>> vinyl, distant vocal cries, sfx and drums from MUSIC 2000

4 - "Untitled (You Name It)"
Originally a much more upbeat, shorter piece with drums and much other percussion; anything but Ambient - eventually stripped of all that to become this
Coloured emotions
>> sfx from MUSIC 2000

5 - "Small World"
Inspired by the kinds Chillout music found on classic albums such as "Chilled Euphoria" and "The Very Best Euphoric Chillout Mixes Breakdown"
Like a Sanctuary of Life, epic
>> twilight pad, dolphins, hihat, snare, bongo, white noise, boom echo, sweeping sfx from MUSIC 2000

6 - "Essence Gardens"
Originally intended to be a VERY electronic Techno track with distortion pasted all over the drums. It then became my first attempt at an electronic version of Classical
Pretty, natural and lovely
>> birds from MUSIC 2000

7 - "Subtle"
Originally was supposed to include drums and such, but I changed my mind. Piano inspired by dZihan and Kamien's "Homebase"
Charming; Sublime; and so slow it makes you feel like even if you were standing still this piece would still be telling you to slow down and wait for it
>> bass from MUSIC 2000

8 - "What Do You See?"
Many people have said it sounds Oriental

Inhale it, there -----< gimmesound.com/whiteorigins (from 2009)
Materialise it, where -----< lulu.com/product/cd/grey-area/6256333 (from 2010)

A slight twist on the the forum classic - "Say something nice...about the poster above, in relation to their music."

For instance, if DJ Droppin' was above me I'd say something like...

"I love the immense effort he puts into fine-tuning every detail of everything in his tracks."

I would start, but there's no-one above me, and since no-one has not made any music, then the next poster should start.

Upon seeing Bliss's comment about Droppin's "Future Dreams" and how he wish he had made it, I thought I would start a relevant thread.

We are a good bunch of musicians and we make some good music, so what songs/tracks/pieces (from TIMGUL musicians) do you wish you had made?

I personally wish I had made Pillage's "B - Ambient". Magnificent piece!

Hey guys, I have re-worked my remix of the Tomb Raider 1 theme tune and I think it is better :)

I replaced the piano with the harp.
I replaced the kick drum with a smoother, funkier one.
I offset the second-of-every-bar finger-click.
I shortened the entire track by cutting out certain parts that just made it drag on.
I reworked the main string theme.
I turned the bass up a touch, and the pad down a touch.
I added the short little melody that features in the themes to Tomb Raiders 2 and 3. :)

Lost songs (MUSIC/MTVMG) / Untitled
August 23, 2009, 10:02:16 PM
Hey guys. Here is a track from my "mid" years. My early years being Music/M2k on PlayStation, mid years being M2k on PC, current years being FL Studio & M2k :). So this is a track from when I was working purely on M2k on PC, before I had even heard of FL.

I don't think I ever came up with a name for it, so it's just "Long Mad Electro" lol. But here it is :)

Non-MUSIC/MTVMG / [dead thread]

.........................................................................
#50
Hey guys, I have come to realise that, for me, the term "songs" is not always an accurate description for certain musical creations. Thus I have adopted this concept...

"Songs" feature vocals. Not just the odd brief vocal sample, but whole phrases. Take the classic Trance track "Cafe del Mar" - no vocals. To me, it just does not feel right calling it a "song". Where as something by Cascada would be considered a song.

"Tracks" are non-vocal music. They may feature the occasional vocal samples, but otherwise it is just music. Drums, bass, guitars, synthesisers, samples, etc. Cafe del Mar is a track.

"Pieces" is a term I use to refer to music that is beatless; features no drums; rhythmless (for instance, you would not feel the automatic desire to toe-tap); time(signature)less; may incorporate vocals (sung less traditionally, and used more as an instrument, so no lyrics as such). Generally speaking this could be considered Ambient music. NOT Chillout music, like the kind featured on albums like this...

...because that does have rhythm, time and beats/drums. And it grabs your attention. But I am talking about the kind of Ambient music that Brian Eno pioneered. Music that is not designed to grab your attention, instead, sits in the background, so some of the time you forget it's there, and yet you are still affected by the calm it creates. Something like the music on Brian Eno's "Ambient 1: Music For Airports"...

Finally, "Non-Music" is a term I would use to describe music that, in fact, features very little ACTUAL music at all. It would mostly be just nature sounds (birds, jungles, water, wave crashes, waterfalls, crickets, other animals, atmospheres and environments, of which M2k has quit a selection of) and other sound effects. Music that is not music. :)

What do you guys think?

Rikki

August 20, 2009, 02:56:42 PM
Anyone else ever had problems with two specific files - namely "Hardcore 3" in the kickdrum section and "Sample Hold" in the Pad-Softsynth section?

Any time I have used these in tunes in the past the ".m2k" file become corrupt and wouldn't work.

So I have already posted a couple of messages but I figured I would introduce myself here.

I am Rikki, 23 from Kent, England. I use Music 2000 and FL Studio to make my music. I have Colour>Sound Synaesthesia (I see colours and shapes in my head when listening to music).

I wanted to ask - is this forum still busy? I would like to participate in this forum to share ideas, music and tips with people - but I read a "goodbye" thread from another member saying it's a bit dead lately... kind of discouraging?

August 15, 2009, 01:59:20 PM
Hi guys I am new here, I started off making music with Music/Music 2000 and these days use FruityLoops. I still use Music 2000 as a source for samples as most of the samples are superb.

I want to make a remix of CoLD SToRAGE's "Freedom", but I don't know where my PlayStation is, so is it at all likely that anyone could help me out? I need the note/chord arrangements for the main Synth Pad melodies and also the String sections.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Rikki

PS: I have already made a remix of Philes which Tim said he really liked :) yay me. Would I be able to post it on this forum?
