See for me FL is *not* user-friendly; I tried it, didn't like it.

i really think that finding a software to move up from music gen is really a matter of personal taste and luck.i understand the fl interface more now but i feel it lacks ease of use.buzz is fabulous freeware but the problem is the big pack that is posted for download has flaws and will crash for some ppl but i found remedies for these bugs eventually.i have built a kit that has several hundred native buzz vstis and effects.and making a riff in buzz is a lot like making a riff in music 2000.first thing u do is select a synth like a 303 bassline synth.u connect it to master(hold shift and drag line from synth to master)then got to sequence grid-this is like the main screen of music 2000 where all ur riffs are.pui a 0 in first slot under synth name.this is place the riff.now go to pattern editor(riff editor)the default pattern size is like one riff block in music gen with the 16 spaces for notes.u input with the pc keyboard and the last row of letters is like the white keys on keyboard and there an option to shift octaves.i find writing riffs in buzz to be very fast and much like music 2000.it's really a matter of debugging the software and learning the shortcuts of a music workstation like music or fl or buzz that makes it a tool u can use-right now i'm getting very comfortable on buzz which really functions in the same way as fl(vsti synths and effects soundfont importing and sampler capable)and when u are using synths with effects generators like delay and distortion it's a whole new game.

I'll be honest: As much as I like the M2K interface and as much as I'll awlays use it on this old brick of a PC, Logic's interface is really friendly once you know how it works. Only problem is, Logic's Mac-exclusive so I've been desperately searching for a good deal for a MacBook (since they're pretty expensive and whilst I could afford it, money's still a little tight)

But like I said, M2K's layout works really well. Should make a comeback amirite?

yes it really should-and here is my suggestion-make it like music 2000 the layout and samples but also add some native synth emulators(like a 303 bass and an fm synth like a dx and more)and effects like delay,distortion,fliters and modulation-i know music had these to a point but not like on fl or buzz not with presets that were actually good and high control of parameters.there is really no reason why a console based digital audio workstation like fl and abelton in function can't be made with the same interface as music 2000/mmg.it's just a matter of someone making it happen casper

wow tert!!that would be incredible to have instant access to the original m2k sample library as .wavs to be imported into various DAWs(digital audio workstations).i guess u could do 3 batch conversions also so that the samples are in .mp3 .wav and .ogg as these formats are fairly universal. casper

that exactly what i'm trying to do lately...well, not exactly, in fact i'm recording all the samples from the psx version one by one....which is crazy, too many samples! please tertiary, post a link to a folder which contains all the samples (.WAV format would be great) when you're ready, i'll do the same if i finish first.
on the other hand i'm collecting great samples from videogames too.. some sound effects and vocals are gorgeous

Speaking of samples:
As I'm now able to record from my keyboard directly into my computer without using my headset mic - thus perfect sound quality PLUS the keyboard's inbuilt reverb setting - anyone want a load? I know that stonecold/Weapins Division's able to record onto CD or something like that, so these could really come in handy.

The pad samples on this keyboard are absolute ace. You can create some awesome Dark Ambient stuff with them. Guitars are alright.. though only a couple of the acoustic ones.

(My keyboard's a Casio CTK-691 for those interested - a couple years old, but definitely does the job)

Oh, and as with most keyboards, there's drum patches on there; I could rip each sound.

I don't have any myself - best samples I've worked with the the Mosh Pit and Fuzzy Synth Guitar patches in Logic Pro 8. (which do work great - the former for rhythm guitar, the latter for guitar solos)
Alternatively, there's the ones that Music 2000 has... and I'm surprised at how people can make those sound good 'cause they sound awful when I use them.
