The Roland TR-909 is a legendary sampler and sequenzer from the 80s. And I have read, that Music 2000 contains the original samples of it. The legendary techno sample machine costs 1500-2000 € on the second hand market. And a lot of sounds I have heard are really the same. If it is true, that this is the same, we can say we are good by collecting our money with Music 2000.

I had already told you in another thread, that in my opinion it's very difficult to find a really good snaredrum. Because if you want to make a real good song, maybe to public it must sound amazing! And I found a combination of two snaredrums, which connect their sounds to one amazing snaredrum. Of course it's only my feeling of a good snaredrum.

But I think it's almost a good secret to show you that, because you can't tell people all of your tricks to make your own sound. But here I want to break my habits:

All samples of course in 44 khz. Load Snaredrum "SPLASHY" to your list. Pull the volume down to 50%. Then load the snaredrum "SHORTHISS" to another slot of your list. Don't change its sound. Then copy "SHORTHISS" and mix it 1:1 to the "SPLASHY".


Now hear if you like this. I think this is a really good professional snare sample now without loading from an audio CD!

Although nobody has answered in this thread I want to show a blues-rhythm did with Music 2000. To show, now it's clear, you can do that, too.

I wanted to ask you, did somebody had experiences with the difference between Playstation 1 and 2 while working with Music 2000? I have a PS 1 and would it be better to work with the PS 2 from the aspect of sound quality? I just use the cinch wire and I would do that with the PS 2, too. Would it be the same quality?

For me it's difficult to imitate that beat. Maybe I could play it on a keyboard. I love beats and music like that, but to do it in that rational way is not easyyy. Because it is in English. A video of making of would be the best. Than I could understand more and more to create own things with such beats.

Irndemon  !  As I downloaded this I thought "That won`t be very good..." But it has blown me away! How did you do that? I must say it is not easy for me to understand everything of the english language! Can you post screenshots of the riff editor? That shows, it is possible to do EVERY beat I guess. And which Samples did you use? You are good with working on music 2000! I could not figure out that kind of beat until I asked you.

And what bpm did you chose?

I really don't know if it is true. But I think the sampling from an audio CD is not so good as it could be by working on a PC Software. The makers of Music 2000 say you can load them in the samplelist with CD quality. But I don't think this is really possible.

I made a good snare track und thought by myself most of the snares of Music 2000 are not good for a real Rock - Song! Often they alone sound like electronic nintendo game sounds or cheap shynthesizer. I guess, the best snare for a acceptable Pop Rock- Sound is really "Short Hiss". The rest I just can't hear or use for Rock.  But let me tell you:

I wanted to take a fantastic snare sound from a cd. I loaded it of course in best quality and then I tried to cut it right. The cutted new snare I copied and wanted to put it in the samplelist to the "old" snare of my snare track. Then I listened to the snare track and was dissapointed. The track was much worst than before, although the new snare from the CD sounds much better and more realisitc, than the snare from the Music 2000 files. What happened?

Something happened to the quality I guess. It is no good compressing or converting, could that be? The Playstation 1 has a small sound harddisk. How could it be, that we can record many seconds in real CD quality? I think it could not me possible. So I learned, never use a sample from a cd.

What would you say?


And VERY bad is what I also found out. If you cut samples the quality will be destroyed. If you cut them more and more, you will hear bad sounds in your samples. By working on a pc with cut programms and converting to wavs, it would not be like that! That are some contras, we have to handle with.

That is an important error of the software. Sometimes the stereo pan is totally wrong after reloading a song. Maybe a hihat or tom is very right, but you never made this by yourself. That we have to accept and find tricks.

Next time I can show a brand new track, I wrote some years ago, and few days ago prepared with Music 2000.

I was just wondering as I tried to do some blues tracks or Rock 'n' Roll or maybe Ryhthm and Blues. I just had to give up. Although I love this music and have a feeling with it, I couldn't do it with Music 2000. I tried a lot of things to create a right beat for a blues track. (If I could make a blues song on the channels, I could do RocknRoll automatically, because it is sometimes almost the same by drumming, just faster).

It is not difficult to make a techno-beat with music 2000.
A simple rockbeat with a bassdrum is possible of course, too! Because that is easy working like a clock. But a blues beat is more "humanized", and I just wanted to ask, how I could work on it, to find a real RocknRoll or blues beat. This "repeatbox" in the riff editor makes it also possible, to start the sample later. I think there I must find a way. But still couldn't find it. Often the beat just "almost" was right, but at least it made no "mathematical" sense on the objects. And it never had a real "rhythm" or groove.

Then I tried to make a "metronom"click, to find the right beats per minute time. And I wanted to set the right drumbeat on it. Even that failed. Did somebody create a track like this or knows how to put the samples to a beat like I want?

Unfortunately there are not so many discussions as we find here. That's because I registered myself here. I procuced my first tracks with music 2000 eight years ago. And today I try to learn and find more in the work with this very secret software. I think with Music 2000 you have two options. You can laugh about it or you can just know, what potential it has, if you really can use it.

I think I will read a lot of topics here and ask some things. Even if I have some years of practising with Music 2000, I don't know everything. And if you have a question, maybe I can give you a useful response.
