Title: How to upload and listen to songs
Post by: DJ_Omnimaga on October 29, 2007, 06:55:35 PM
To upload a file, click "New topic" and enter a topic title (preferably song name) and the music genre as the topic description. Below the big text area there is a "Additional Options..." link. Click it and it will expand: there should be a field where you can upload your file. The maximum file size is 20 MB. Use MP3, WMA or OGG formats for your songs. You can also upload AVI and WMV videos.

Depending of how large is your file, it might take several minutes to upload.

If your song or video is larger than 20 MB (which is less likely with a song file) you can use an external file host such as http://www.mediafire.com or http://www.divshare.com to upload your file. Keep in mind, though, that most external file hosts won't keep your file online forever if it doesn't get enough downloads, so you might need to check it regulary in case, which is why we recommend you compress your audio/video formats enough so you can use the board uploader instead. If you have a huge video file, we recommend you upload the video on Youtube and link to the video file like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzDRm_Btj0g

To listen to audio files on TIMGUL you will need a music player installed on your computer. Winamp is recommended and a free version is avaliable. Itunes also works, but it cannot play WMA and OGG files. Windows Media Player cannot play OGG files either. To listen to video off youtube, we recommend Winamp or Windows Media Player.

If you got Firefox or Opera web browsers, you can also install Quicktime player to be able to listen to mp3 files directly in your internet browser. There may be other plugins avaliable too for different file formats.

File limit is 6 MB actually, because my webhost doesn't let me allow bigger files, but if your connection has slow downs it will still not work anyway, the best thing to do is to make sure the song is under 6 MB by making it 6 mins or less and compressing it to 128 kbps, for bigger files it need to be on savefile

idk, it depends of your internet and computer, if it's in anyway slowing down sometimes then it won't work. Just post your tune on rapidshare.com and I will upload them myself in your post

Well I meant in separate topics, but I splitted both posts anyway as two topics. I will upload the songs later

Hello, I have a selection of tracks I`d like to get on here but I`m useless with computers and don`t quite get what I have to do to get them up here! I`ve managed to upload them on to a hosting site and here are the links. Have I done this correctly?

Hi and welcome here :)

To post your songs post a new topic for every song, and upload each songs in their respective topic. When you create a new topic below the post form there should be an upload box. This is where you upload your song. It takes a long while and is not guaranteed to work though. File size limit is also 6 MB. Else you have to link to external sites such as savefile.com instead of uploading a file, but then it's not guaranteed the song will stay online so I will need to delete the topic if the file go down.

 File not found!!!

Premium Features:

File stay forever, even with 0 downloads- MY ARSE!!!!!
Download files without loading a single savefile page
200MB filesize limit

2nd edit- Maybe if you register an account then it will save 'em forever??

3rd edit- Got a lot of videos to create  :( Got all the savefiles saved in audacity so all is not lost..after 60 days with no downloads they get deleted..

Reread carefully. File stays forever is a prenium feature, meaning you need to pay for it. Else it stay up until it get 0 downloads for a month.

I`ve tried creating a new topic and uploading a track there but it says it can`t upload a file of this type. My tracks are in MPEG-4 format. If I save a file in Savefile, can I then copy and paste the link in a topic?

you need to save your files into .mp3 format. It is the only file type the forum accept (since this is what most people can read on any platform [Windows, Mac, Unix, etc)

If you save into savefile you can paste the link in a topic, but keep in mind if no one downloads it for 30 days it gets deleted from savefile

Do you know of any hosting sites without a 30 day limit? Thanks.

nope it is impossible to upload bigger files. The 6 MB limit is server related and cannot be changed :(

Even if it says it can be 12 MB max it won't upload above 6, and between 2 and 6 it will still give errors sometimes like with the old system :(

If the songs I've done are too big, can I post links from my website instead? They're all songs made with MG2..

no problem with that, just make sure the links stays up to date though because I sometimes check through old topics and delete the ones where songs links no longer works (which happens a lot with savefile.com or such filehost links)

New site recommended for those who cannot upload their stuff here: http://www.divshare.com

This one seems better than Savefile and Rapidshare because when you open the file page there is a music player allowing you to listen to the song without having to navigate through 3 pages like with Savefile/Rapidshare and you don't even need to download it
