Messages - Not a Number

I don't have any myself - best samples I've worked with the the Mosh Pit and Fuzzy Synth Guitar patches in Logic Pro 8. (which do work great - the former for rhythm guitar, the latter for guitar solos)
Alternatively, there's the ones that Music 2000 has... and I'm surprised at how people can make those sound good 'cause they sound awful when I use them. :(

this link is very valuable because this site is an archive of vintage instrument samples many from old synths like the m2k library

Behold the first track under alphaSYMBOLIC!

Song name: Sincil Drain (alphaSYMBOLIC edit)
File type: mp3 (attached)
Length: 2:16
Software used: Logic Pro 8
Description:
Story goes as this:
Couple weeks or so ago at college we were given the raw Project file for a hip-hop track produced at college. Our task was simple: To cut down the song from 4:37 to as close to 2:00 as possible, as well as make it radio friendly - take out any swearing/other inapproriate language.
This was my result.
Bit of an interpretation on this one: The chorus you hear in this version is actually the Pre-chorus in the original (the chorus in the original is the bridge/third_verse in this version)
One minor thing that I'm really proud of in this song is at 1:14 - the line you hear, I had changed to "In the place with the rogues / with their nose full of.. pain"; the original line was "In the place with the rogues / with their nose full of cocaine" (though personally, I keep hearing "propane" in place of "cocaine"...)

Also, for those not in the know, "alphaSYMBOLIC" is just another name I use, simply to keep any track I wish to keep seperate from "Not a Number", ...seperate. :P

Speaking of samples:
As I'm now able to record from my keyboard directly into my computer without using my headset mic - thus perfect sound quality PLUS the keyboard's inbuilt reverb setting - anyone want a load? I know that stonecold/Weapins Division's able to record onto CD or something like that, so these could really come in handy.

The pad samples on this keyboard are absolute ace. You can create some awesome Dark Ambient stuff with them. Guitars are alright.. though only a couple of the acoustic ones.

(My keyboard's a Casio CTK-691 for those interested - a couple years old, but definitely does the job)

-edit-
Oh, and as with most keyboards, there's drum patches on there; I could rip each sound. :)

I'll be honest: As much as I like the M2K interface and as much as I'll awlays use it on this old brick of a PC, Logic's interface is really friendly once you know how it works. Only problem is, Logic's Mac-exclusive so I've been desperately searching for a good deal for a MacBook (since they're pretty expensive and whilst I could afford it, money's still a little tight)

But like I said, M2K's layout works really well. Should make a comeback amirite? :P

I always turn the Microphone level in Audacity down to 0 when recording from the TV.
For recording into a microphone (vocals, voice-acting, etc.), I have it at around 0.4.
And for recording straight from the speakers, 0.

That was Sonic 3's Death Egg, not Flying Battery. :P
But thanks nonetheless.

Song name: Shattered Fortress Zone
File type: YouTube -> mp3 (MediaFire)
Length: 6:21
Software used: Audacity
Description:

What can I say... The vocal track to The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater set to various tracks from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (and one from Sonic 3).
That's about it really. :P

Goes a little out-of-sync in places, but that was Dream Theater's fault. :P

Yeah, YT's been running really slow today.
Slower than usual. :P

Since /0 got cancelled last month, I've removed that from my list and replaced it with the /0, Part 1 tracklist.
Also added a proposed for /0's replacement, Day One; as well as a track I'm currently producing at college (Sincil Drain [alphaSYMBOLIC edit]) - once that track's finished, I'll upload it here for all to se-I mean, hear.

I downloaded the ISO image from a Demonoid torrent a good few months ago and use DAEMON Tools to mount the image onto my disc drive.

Haven't really used it though.. have always gone back to the PSX version..

I don't tend to write my tunes down in musical notation (I can't really read/write it that well anyway); I tend to write them down similar to guitar tabs, so taking the intro melody for Phoenix:

| C1 C2 Ab1 G F - C - | Eb - -  - - - -  - |
| C1 C2 Ab1 G F - C - | - Eb Eb F G F Eb C |

If you have a keyboard handy, just mess about on the keys until you get something.

(in case you're wondering, the numbers represent a change in octave)

---

Heck, I've gone through cold spells myself; I managed to come up with loads of tracks just by messing on the keyboard until something appeared.

I just turn to the keyboard and improv on it. That's how I came up with the basis of Phoenix.

See if you can figure out which song it is. :D (and yes, I've tabbed pretty much the rest of this song as well - once my camera starts working properly I'll record it onto YouTube. :D)
Oh, quick tip: the "7/10" bit just means play the 7th fret and then very quickly move to the 10th. It works after a little practice.

I've been on a quest to get all tracks downloaded in case of another site crash. Also I've been thinking about having some sort of backup in case of another data loss but I don't know how one would go about it for a forum. Anyway, more on that another time!
I did make an "unofficial" backup of TIMGUL, but that doesn't have a file upload feature.

If I recall, there are 900+ songs on the website, though that doesn't take into account any lost through database crashes.
#99
Same (but with 20).
Though I guess with Re:spawned, I can see where the biggest chunk of my tracks are. :P

I know Fly Away is a little loud and I do agree that it could do with a little more work to it.
(the last-ish note was a slight error: I think it should've been just B, not Bb.)
That said, I do plan on re-working this track, just to fix the minor bugs (the odd note, the transition between Burn and Re-Ignite) and add to a few sections - yes, even at 11:43, it's not long enough. :P (I originally had to cut it down from, at a guess, 12:20 to 11:43 because it wouldn't fit on TIMGUL Hypermix 2009 Disc 02 otherwise.
From what I've planned for this, the "full" version could be around 13:30+.

But thanks for the comments so far. :)
