Which commercial software or freeware is the closest clone to the MTVMG?

I primarily use a PS3 (Phat) so i can no longer use my copies of MTVMG1. My PS2 is broken and its hard trying to find a PS1 at all. This has forced me to look into the general audio editor supply and i "concur". (lol) Most software is over complicated once u get used to the Generator. I learned how to produce music using an MPC60. Once the Generator hit me, i never looked back. Nowadays im really itching to work but i have no usable platform to work on.

I wanted to post up this question in another post but i think it would have been called Necro posting or something like that.
"Which commercial software or freeware is the closest clone to the MTVMG? or better yet of all the beat making ways from TIMGUL and its community, what in your opinion is the way you go about making music with the "simplicity" of a generator?

To push your thought around, MTVMG1 has been the perfect platform for me even with its restrictions because "I never owned a pc" :o Till now that is. Nowadays i have "my wife's pc" and an ancient notebook without anything close to making music!

Google gets stale after awhile. Ive seached for info but only someone who understands the MTVMG1 or Music 2000(etc...) can answer this question. I havent touched anything like Ablton or FL Studio. I know a little Pro Tools, a little Reason. And a few pieces of Hardware. So what say u? What can give me that MTVMG1 or Music 2000 simplicity? Anything?

Fear 2 Stop®

It's no secret I have continued to stick with the Generator. I'm constantly using new tricks after EIGHT YEARS of using MG2. Hell, I've even used the sampler to sample actual live instruments and then make notes in MG2. I've got this song that samples my then 6-month old daughter (now 2 years & 2 months old). I've done sampled everything short of faps or toilet flushing. If I were ever to change to a different method, it wouldn't be with mainly software. I'd get an analogue synth instead.

i totally agree with you "Fear". I use MG1. It samples from cd. When i first got into it i was restricted to its internal sounds. Then i purchased a sony standalone cd recorder (before everything was called burners) which changed everything. I was able to record anything i wanted to cd. I can literally get any sound i want and put it on cd then incorporate it into mg1. After years of tricks, i learned how to make my own sounds. Scince them ive gone thru unknown amounts of blank cd's and just might have the oddest library of sound banks ever. Funny how the generators can become so valuable im the right hands but can receive so much neg criticizm within the mainstream industry. at the same time its the easiest workstation ive ever used yet the complicated products get the credit.

Hey JohnP, is FL Studio a full sequencer, sampler, piano roll, effects editor and all that fancy jargon like the generators?

ePSXe comes close to a "clone" of MTVMG because it's essentially a PS1 on the PC. :D (add the fact that you can put PS1 discs in the computer and run them through ePSXe and it'll run absolutely fine and you got a whole TV and console spare)

Logic Pro is pretty close to MTVMG; I use that at college (it being a music course at a music college, I'm.. OK at it) and if you've got a Mac, then even better (as Logic has been Mac-exclusive since 2007). I'm stuck with a PC at home so no Logic for me outside of college. :P I wholeheartedly recommend Logic Pro if you're thinking of switching (that's just my opinion though; even though I'll still go back to the Generator at home, Logic's just plain awesome on the college Macs)

Just try to find a PS1 or PS2. Nothing comes close to the original.
It's not about what you have but what you can do with it!

Aren't PS3's backward compatible with PS1 games?

Which version of the PS3 do you have? The only one that I've heard of that wasn't compatible with PS1 games was the 40GB version.

Tried it on a 40 gig PS3 but the emulation was not good. Lot of sound errors.

My 60GB works fine with Music 2000; although I must say, 10-year old graphics do NOT look good in HD. :D

thanx guys! great help! Only the 60g PS3 had full backwards compatibility but still contained lots of issues like high pitch sounds and crash happy performance with MG1.

Don't see why its hard to find a PS1, nobody wants them these days.
I went a car boot sale a while back and a guy had a stack of them £1 each.

Anyhow, if not I'd definitely go for Not a Number's suggestion of ePSXe. It'd probably make recording a breeze too :)
