This seems like a pretty good resource. I found the answer I needed in here - of course, I haven't applied it yet since I am at work. But it makes sense what they are saying (the mixer levels in my computer aren't ticked right or adjusted correctly, that's why the samples are silent).

It depends. I have been into a lot of different styles of music; when I was 13 it was all about breakdance, and that was when RUN DMC first came out and we were all listening to Roxanne-Roxanne & ICE T tracks at like 125 bpm, and that was the shit. (I rem when Technotronic came out with a track at 132 we were all like 'HOLY CRAP THIS IS FAST!). LOL. No one new how to dance to it...

Then I was into Mod-Punk & New Wave, then some punk (I saw RHCP at Pinks Garage when they were still a concept band and I really loved the energy and the ingenuity), and I have gone on to classic rock, alt rock, rave, club, whatever now. I was a Dj too for a while.

The point it, by the time I got to the MTVMG I had been exposed to so much music, I didn't really have a 'genre' so to speak. So when I go to make a track there are a bunch of different ways I go about it, depending largely on my mood.

If I am doing something housey or more hard dance, I will start with the beat and then layer on top of that with sound FX and perc. Melody usually comes last. If I am doing something for dance music, then I have melody ideas first and beat comes later.

And then I do this thing which I guess you would call 'snatch & grab' where I just go into the library kinda fast hitting F1 and when I hear something I like I grab it to the palette. Then I make a song and see how it goes - sometimes it is clickin and sometimes it is crap. >SHRUG< I like the unpredictability factor to that approach.

I have tried some focused work with a concept going in, and that turned out well. But it takes a lot to reign in my brain and keep me focused! And I have done challenges, either laid out by me or someone else. Sometimes I just want to see if I can do something.

I also just fart around with sounds and beats alot when I have nothing else to do, so I have a LOT of bits and pieces on my computer (I save everything even if I think it is crap at the time, I may be able to use it later). So sometimes I am dinking around and I get something and I think 'that would go really well with this or that' and then I get a song that way.

I guess if I had to choose a genre for me that I keep going back to it would be hard dance, then house.

One thing is for sure though, I have always used the Generator.

QuoteWould it be possible to have each track seperate; or to keep the whole "mixiness", give the times of each track change?

Audio Surgeon has a function where you can insert 'breaks' - so like if someone is listening to the mix on a car stereo they could jump to track markers. But it doesn't interrupt the flow of the mix.

BTW, the mix sounds really good. You should get this over to C89 and make them aware of it. This is totally what they play.

MUSIC series discussion / Timgul: The Album?

B) This is a VERY cool idea. I would like to be included in any future works.

I have a bunch of songs you could choose from - let me know when the next project is and I will submit some.   ;)

Okay, I got the CD controller thingy to operate CDs on my machine from inside the software, but it still won't record the song bits I want when I do the obvious functions (play song, hit record, hit stop, go to the sample list).

The new sample is there in the list, it is just silent >SHRUG<  I will call the techie on Monday at condemasters. It is just a bother playing 20 questions, and then he will want me to run a diagnostic.

147 crew, I downloaded the Audacity, looks good. I will give it a go tomorrow and see what comes of it. It would just be a real coup for me if I could finally get the sample import feature to work... I am thinking there is something not talking to the software from my computer, or I have a mixer setting not set correctly.

ANYhoooo, just chattin back. Thanks for the help.

This is the first song I ever did, the first night I loaded the software. Pretty straightforward use of the provided riffs. I loved MTVMG so much I loaded and loaded samples until I crashed the program. LOL. Then I had to go back and optimize the sample list and delete sounds ... it is a crazy song, but I still enjoy it today.

I burned it to CD that same night, and I listened to it over and over in amazement until the batteries gave out in my CD player, about 3am. LOL. I have made a few remixes of 'Coming Soon', this one I included (Verbal Burble Mix) is pretty ... um, different. Think 'Art of Noise'.

Just realized, as I link the songs, this isn't THE original, this is an edit I did a few years later, but the basic integrity is there. Mostly I went in and cleaned up some clicking, smoothed in some fade in and out of vocal samples, and also added the ticka-ticka you here to the left (to sort of give the track a thread).

Enjoy!

Lost songs (MUSIC/MTVMG) / Lost My Mind

I... uh... lost my mind too!

I like your rendition. It is cool to hear the same samples used in different genre. I agree that this was one of the better vocalists/samples in the series! I have had a lot of fun using that guys voice.

Cheers to the kick ass tune!

I know, I have been advised of that too...

but there is an import function in the generator.

anyone ever successfully used it?

I am very happy to have a place to commune with other MTVMG users. For eons I thought I was the only one, and hardly anyone knows what I am talking about when they ask me what I use to produce. So I just say 'oh a video game'. But here is a place I can really talk about stuff and figure things out. Kudos!

I feel silly for even having to ask this because I have used the software forever. But I have never completely figured out the process. I know there is a way to record audio from pc, and I know how to start it in the generator, but how do you aim it or select what you want to record from on your computer?

I even called tech support on this and he wasn't very clear on the instructions. (apparently the engineer that was working on the first version had a tiff with the company and quit before all the instructions could be laid out and bugs smoothed over - that was what I heard from a secretary working at codemasters USA, west coast office).

ANYWAY, I digress... has anyone else out there managed to figure this process out? Can I import disected bits of wav and mp3 files to do remixes for my friends?

I discovered that if you like a loud bass signal with the kick drum you can do this same trick. 4 tracks works good as a general rule for me, however sometimes if I am going for a lot of power and loooooong kick hits with a ring to them I will use 8 channels. If you shift the pan around a little with each note and vary the number so it is not a recognizable pattern you get a nice distortion like you are in a rave hall...
