I've had problems, too, with being able to get full stereo from any source (PS2 and cassette) onto the PC through the sound card connections.
I have a set-top DVD recorder and, if I ever get around to getting another Playstation2, I had already planned on using the method that KalsolarUK suggested to get my songs onto the PC.  Plus, for those who want to upload to YouTube, you could just use the video, as is (re-encoded for the web, of course).

I know what you mean.  I was so surprised to see that a site like this actually exists.  More surprised to see how active it is, even after all of the years that have passed since the Generator was released.

Now i'm a pot smoking beat manic who never has enough time to do anything!

Ha!!  I know what you mean!

I started out doing remixes using a cassette recorder - press PAUSE, move the needle to another spot on the record, un-press PAUSE, etc..  I actually still have some of those remixes on tape, around here somewhere.
Then, about twenty years ago, I hooked up with a club DJ who taught me all about scratching and beat-mixing and did that for a couple of years.
Through it all, though, Heavy Metal was always my first love, so I traded the turntables for an electric guitar and haven't looked back.

Looking forward to hearing your creations.

Wow!!  It really is incredible to see that someone who was actually involved in the creation of my second favorite piece of software, ever, (second only to Photoshop), has found this site and decided to join in on the discussions.
I bought the Generator on the day it was released and spent the next several years experimenting and creating.  As I've said, elsewhere, I spent over fourteen hours, one day, "lost" in my own little world - most of that time, working on just one song.  The original was so deep that it took years to find all of it's functions.  It really is one piece of software that has stood the test of Time.
The second iteration was a bit confusing, at first, but just as feature-rich, once I got the hang of it.

Hopefully, Tim will continue to visit our little site so we can pick his brain about what all went into creating the best reason to own a Playstation.

Okay, so it's the same as before, that's cool.

Hey, DJ!

Is it true we can, now, upload as many as 9 songs, up to 12000kB, per post?
That's what it says just below where you load your "Attachment", on the "New Topic" page.

If so, is that because of the new system?

Other MUSIC/MTV Music softwares / Re: MTV MG PC

I have the PC version, now.  I found a place to download it from (wink - wink) so it's not impossible to get.
I'd still like to get an "actual" copy.  I remember seeing them in the $10 bin at Wal-Mart a few years ago, but my PS2 was still working, then, so I didn't feel like I had a need for it.  Now, I wish I'd have just bought it, anyway.

It's been a few years since I've used the PS version, so a lot of the intricate details of how to use it elude me, now.  I've tried to use the PC version, a couple of times, but it doesn't "feel" right, for some reason.  One would think that using a mouse would be more intuitive than a game controller, but it, somehow, seems more difficult.  I'm going to keep plugging away, though, because I really miss being able to create music.  I've tried other app.s, like Fruity Loops, but they are much too convoluted and just getting a simple drum beat takes far too much effort, especially when compared to the ease-of-use you get with the Generator.

I know that mailing a letter to yourself with your idea/manuscript inside and keeping it unopened has always been a valid way to prove ownership of written material.  The postmark tells when you mailed it, thus proving that you had this idea/manuscript completed as of that day.  I wonder if there's a digital-age alternative.
Perhaps, if you found an online storage company that keeps meticulous records of when an item was uploaded, you could zip up the mp3 and any other pertinent files (anything you think may help to prove it's yours) and load them onto the storage servers.
If the question of ownership ever comes up, you can prove, at least, when you uploaded it to that server.  It's the same basic concept as the snail-mail routine.

In Audacity, there's a little microphone symbol under the Record, Play, etc. buttons.  To the right of it is a slider and to the right of that is a drop-down menu.  In the menu, choose Stereo Out as the source so that Audacity will record the sound being sent to the speakers.  This way, if you can hear it, so can Audacity.

The first one, for the PC, can be "found" (wink-wink) but no joy on the 2002 version.

As for the controls, I agree that they're a little annoying and harder to get used to then I'd imagined.  You would figure that using a mouse would be more intuitive for this sort of thing than a Playstation controller, but...

It's almost as if you stole my identity, there.  :)  Run-DMC, Roxanne-Roxanne, "This beat is... This beat is.. This beat is Technotronic" -- it's like reading my own bio.

MUSIC 2000/MTV Music Generator / tutorials?
April 03, 2008, 02:37:00 PM
That's a pretty good idea, actually.  Since it's been a couple of years since I've used it, myself, I could use a little refresher course in it, too.

Perhaps, if anyone's willing, a couple of basic usage tuts and a few on advanced techniques.  Maybe someone might like to do a "How I Did That" sort of tutorial - unless, of course, you don't want to give away your secrets :) .

Creepy.  Crazy.  Cool.  CanUdiggit? - (first impressions)

Wicked samples in there.  I'd have to concur with Bliss - it's like the soundtrack to a nightmare - or a drug-induced haze.

I think this one will have to go on the "Wish I'd made that" list.

Nice and funky, Member No.: 1.  Makes me want to shake my groove thang.
It's really cool when it gets rolling, then, when the synth comes in - whoa!

I haven't really listened to this kind of music since I got tired of my Eon "Void Dweller" CD, but, every now and again, a funk-fest is just what the doctor ordered.

Quotegood choice! mtvmg3 is only good for one thing... resting your beer on... or playing frisbie with... hmmm thats more than one thing... maybe mtvmg3 isnt that bad after all...
You forgot Christmas tree ornaments, earings and I'm sure I remember someone once made a dress out of a bunch of discs.

They have lots of uses.   ;)

I have a bunch that I use as dust collectors (keeps it from getting all over stuff I actually use)

Okay, thanks for the quick reply and clarification.

People can be so friggin closed-minded when it comes to creativity, sometimes.  They may have laughed at what I was able to acheive with a $50 peice of software on an old Playstation.  I laugh much harder, though, when I hear what they got out of a $2000 computer and several hundreds of dollars worth of software when it sounds almost the same as my stuff.

The song has a good sound to it.  I would dance to it, if I could (dance, that is :) )

I looked around but couldn't find anything about this.

As the title suggests, does the site have any rules concerning the use of copyrighted material as samples in uploaded songs?

I ask because I have a couple that use some simple samples, one from an Adam Sandler CD and another from a local radio announcer, and I don't want to upload them if there's going to be a problem.

Also, along the same lines, how about what may be considered "mature" material?  That Adam Sandler sample contains the dreaded "F-bomb" throughout the entire song.  I had already thought to put a warning on it that it's NSFW, but, again, I wouldn't want there to be any problems should I decide to share it.
