Artist: DJ Omnimaga
Title: Terra (Trance Remix)
Year: 2006
Sample rate: 128kbps
Comments: A trance version of the World of Balance map in Final Fantasy 6. The song may feel a bit like trance from the late 1990s and is quite fast (averages at 150 BPM). NOTE: this was submitted at OCRemix, but got rejected.

MTV Music Generator 2 / A Backwards step?

Seems like Jester isn't too keen on Beta-testing... because even Music 2000 had glitches too, like how note effects won't get played when more than one is used at once and memory leaks (psone memory not getting fully cleared even if you optimize sample list and remove unused riffs) but that one can be remedied by saving on memory card, clearing all song/music/video/data, then reloading the song again. It doesn't have that many bugs though, just more than any other playstation games around. It's still my favourite console game ever made though :D

I heard Music 3000 was also very hard to use, was it true?

this is one of my favourite Music 2000 song, even if the vocals weren't put in using Music 2000. I wish there was an USB sampler support in Music 2000 as well, it would be much easier to import samples than from a sample CD

MTV Music Generator 2 / A Backwards step?

Yeah the vertical scrolling looked weird, like the music 3000 one. I never tried the program much though, did MTVMG2 had more sound samples and did it had reverb effects at least?

That said MTVMG3 is probably the worst of all, because you had to base your songs on specific styles, which were one of the 10 featured artist by MTV music television. Basically MG3 was more a game meant for DJ's and arrangers/remixers, not for producers like us. To me it seemed like this program was meant as an advertisement for the 10 artists featured in it.

Is Music 3000 any good? It was released here as Digital Hitz Factory but I never had the chance to find it and try it

Hmm for some reason that music reminds me something, I checked youtube and found this http://youtube.com/watch?v=u902HyNQTD4 . Still don't remember this much tho, I must have heard the music from this video in a cartoon version of this TV program/movie  or something like this.

I like your remix better though :P

For some reasons I think your remix would fit well in a adventure/RPG video game as well :)

First of all to open the following video you need a Windows computer with Windows Media Player or any other video software that play .AVI files on it. You probably noticed that all sound samples in Music 2000 are mono recordings. In some cases it can make a big difference in the song quality. You can add stereo by adding reverb effect to the note, but sometimes you don't always want the reverb effect. The following video will show an alternative:

Basically you create two copy of the same riff, clone one of them, select all notes, go in notes parameters to change the sample offset in it (not too high though), edit the note pan so you only hear the sound from one side of speakers/headphones. Afterward you edit the other riff so the sound is heard from the other side. DON'T CHANGE the sample offset though.

Once it's done it gives the results heard near the end of the video. See the difference, eh? You can use a different sample offset obviously. Just mess around with it and find out which settings suits your need more. Keep in mind this trick may not work with all sound samples though.

Pros:
-No need for reverb effects to have stereo, good for when they aren't wanted at all.
-Useful for hardsynths like in trance/techno songs.
-Not glitchy like note effects (on top of that the two stereo effects in the note effects menu doesn't even sound stereo at all

Cons:
-Takes two sound channel instead of one, so if you use this effects in many riffs you will run out of sound channels very quickly.
-You may need to do minor adjustments depending of the sample used.

yeah same here, on top of that lot of the Music 2000 guitar samples sucks, because every samples in the game is recorded in mono, not stereo, so some came out bad. You have to choose your samples wisely to make the song sound good or add some effects to them.

That said I had an idea on trying to make sounds more stereo I will try it later to see how it sounds like.

For some reasons at the beginning the sound seems screwed up because I only hear it from one side of the speakers -.- but the song is not bad in overall. Is it from the Sci-fi War Of The World movie that was recenty released (2006 IIRC)? I saw this one once

Ok, first of all this tutorial applies to the Playstation version of MTV Music Generator/Music 2000, not the PC version that was released in Canada and USA in 2000. Also when I refers to MTV Music Generator or MTVMG I also refers to Music 2000. MTVMG is the American version of Music 2000, but it is exactly the same game.

Those who messed around with MTVMG for a while may have ran into numerous bugs in the program. Yep, you read it, there is indeed many bugs in MTVMG, unfortunately. Codemasters or Jester probably rushed their beta-testing phase and missed many bugs before the release, which is a shame because the product is awesome. Or they probably released the beta instead of the final version lol but I doubt that. Some bugs might be annoying and even ruin your fun when producing new music, especially when you have your own riffs. However DON'T discourage yourself! Even though Music 2000 has many bugs and glitches, it is still a great tool to make music and those bugs can be worked around pretty easily.

This topic will make you discover those bugs (if you didn't alerady) and will teach you how to work around them.

The note effect bug

So you want to add a note effect in a riff? In the riff editor, when you go in note parameters you can change the note effects and add for example chorus, octaves, reverb, special zapping effects. Pretty cool, eh? As awesome as it sounds, it doesn't works properly all the time, especially if multiple notes with special effects plays at the same time. If you insert a riff with such effects in a area where there's plenty of channels used and play the song sometimes you will not hear the note effect at all, it will sounds glitchy or the effect will cut all of a sudden in the middle of each notes. The glitch will be different sounding depending from where you start playing the song. It is worse when starting playing from the beginning or a long while before the note effect is used. There is no work around this, I never found why this happens, the only way to avoid this is to only use one note effect at once (in other word, only one sound channel at once should use any).

Basically if you are planning to use many sound effects at once in your song, forget about it now, or you will be sorry about the result later.

The sample palette bug

Lolz! Where's my cursor??

Ok, this one isn't really annoying and I don't know why I am even talking about it, but I will do it in case someone freaks out when it happens. Sometimes, when opening the Sample Palette you will not see your selection cursor at all. Nope your Playstation (or emulator) didn't crashed (I hope  ), it's because MTVMG has a bug with positionning of the window scrolling when you open it. Sometimes it will save the cursor position when closing the sample palette (so when you reopen it it's still at the same place) but it will not always save the scroll position. So basically just hold up or down arrow until you see it appears, (you may have to try both, since sometimes it may be at the top and sometimes at the bottom).

The riff volume glitch

Ok, let's say you have a riff which is set to this volume:

And you want to paste the riff one after each other to make the sound loop like this:

You will encounter the riff volume glitch, which is probably one of the hardest bug to work around in MTVMG, especially if you use all channels. Click below to hear how it will sound:
http://www.mtv-music-generator.com/tutoria..._workaround.mp3
Notice how the riff volume of the next riff seems to overlap with the currently playing riff, which can give pretty bad results in some songs, especially for chorus/pad riffs. This only happen if the beginning volume of the next riff is different than the ending volume of the currently playing riff. To get around this bug you must place your riffs like this:

That way the next riff volume settings will not overlap on the current one. Click below to hear how it sounds now:
http://www.mtv-music-generator.com/tutoria..._workaround.mp3
Notice the difference. Now your song doesn't sound as glitchy anymore.
Here is also a video demonstrating it (both avi and wmv format):

The 1000th slot glitch

This is a glitch/bug I just discovered recently. When you scroll right until you reach the 999th slot place a riff here and set BPM as high as possible, then press start to play song over and over and you'll end up on slot 1000th. This is a glitch that you're less likely to run on because I doubt you'll need that many slots for your songs but it is fun to mess around and watch Music 2000 freak out anyway, just try creating a riff here and see the weird things happen, then put notes here. The funny thing is that you can actually put a video riff here.

The following video shows the glitch in action:

Sound memory leak bug - added Dec 22th 2009

Sometimes, when you delete a sample from your song, you will never retrieve the entire sound memory it took. It is some sort of memory leak in Music 2000 that can cause you lot of trouble and wonder: "Wow I barely use any sample and I still ran out of memory?". Well, this can be worked around like this:

Simply save your song, then go in option, clear all data, then reload your song again! You will have more sound memory left. Repeat as needed!

This tutorial is not finished yet, I will extend this post when i finish reading the other bug work-arounds.

Music showcase / How to upload and listen to songs
October 29, 2007, 06:55:35 PM
To upload a file, click "New topic" and enter a topic title (preferably song name) and the music genre as the topic description. Below the big text area there is a "Additional Options..." link. Click it and it will expand: there should be a field where you can upload your file. The maximum file size is 20 MB. Use MP3, WMA or OGG formats for your songs. You can also upload AVI and WMV videos.

Depending of how large is your file, it might take several minutes to upload.

If your song or video is larger than 20 MB (which is less likely with a song file) you can use an external file host such as http://www.mediafire.com or http://www.divshare.com to upload your file. Keep in mind, though, that most external file hosts won't keep your file online forever if it doesn't get enough downloads, so you might need to check it regulary in case, which is why we recommend you compress your audio/video formats enough so you can use the board uploader instead. If you have a huge video file, we recommend you upload the video on Youtube and link to the video file like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzDRm_Btj0g

To listen to audio files on TIMGUL you will need a music player installed on your computer. Winamp is recommended and a free version is avaliable. Itunes also works, but it cannot play WMA and OGG files. Windows Media Player cannot play OGG files either. To listen to video off youtube, we recommend Winamp or Windows Media Player.

If you got Firefox or Opera web browsers, you can also install Quicktime player to be able to listen to mp3 files directly in your internet browser. There may be other plugins avaliable too for different file formats.
