Future Dreams                    Future Dreams                    Future Dreams                    Future Dreams

A.... What's to say about this one? Hmmmm extremely complex. Tons of detail and fine tuning. Lots of panning. An upbeat sound to it. Dozens of synths. Took over 2 days to complete. Over 1,700 notes.

I hope you all like it. :)

And counting all those took you another 2 1/2 days right? ;)

Very dramatic feel to it. Indeed quite complex as you say. All the numerous melodies going on remind me of some of Orbitals work. And that arp-like melody, the keys/chords it is in remind me of the Trance tunes by Man With No Name.

The only thing that doesn't work, for me, is the use of one of the ZAP samples as a kick drum-type instrument. I feel it takes too much attention away from everything else, when everything else is so magical.

That very subtle grainy-reverb style thing that occurs for a split second at 6:17 is a great and well structured/positioned effect!!

A very detailed track indeed! :)

It took awhile  :D I appreciate your comments. Perhaps the Subzap would be better if it were replaced with a more prominent typical kick drum? If so that's an easy fix.... I am going to load it up (Hoping to God it loads off the memory card) and test that out. Thanks a lot for listening and I'm glad you liked it.

Far be it for me to tell you what to do with your track, but for my own experience, I think a normal, less unusual kick-drum sound would work. I understand it is a future-themed track, so you want everything to be futurific :) hmmm a tough one. However, in the future there is always the past...

I dunno :P that is just my thoughts.

.:DJ Droppin:.

Ahhhh I just changed samples to [floor it 4 44khz] and it made a major difference. A more pronounced kick and seems to sound better overall. Thanks a lot for the suggestion.  :)

Wow  ;D That's quite a compliment... Not even sure what to say besides I appreciate that, and thanks a lot for listening.

Recording another version with the new kick drum. I'd say there is quite a difference. The kick is very distinguished now and was a nice touch. Thanks again for the constructive criticism/advice, Rikki.  :)

Okay here it is. New version without the Subzap and now using Floor it 4 44KHZ.
I hope this improves the track and is what you were referring to. I do wonder if the kick is now too loud? I have listened to it 6-7 times and I think it's okay.

Dude you realise I was not saying Future Dreams is bad. What I said was only my personal experience of things and thus I was not saying "it needs to be improved" - it would not be my place to make such a comment :)

On the revised version - for me this works better. I can also now appreciate the other drums/percussion more too.

Kick too loud? I don't know... I don't think so.

.:DJ Droppin:.

Oh yeah I fully realize you weren't saying that. I think it sounds far better with the more pronounced kick like this. As you said it makes everything just that more defined and cleaner sounding.

Thanks for comments and listening. I think the only thing I've questioned is "Did I make it TOO complex?" that is always a possibility. It does sound clean, every note and sound is defined, and there is no note interference, so I think it's okay as is. I am glad I have created my own style/sound of trance. It's an enjoyable genre to work with. Right now I'm working on another track, but it's a bass track with piano extremelyyyyyy slow flowing.

:) Oh sure there is. It was close on this track. If you have too many notes playing simultaneously on the left/center/right sections of the audio spectrum field then you can run into disastrous problems such as note interference, notes that are mute or ill defined, and the overall sound can become jumbled. That's real drawback if you create something so complex is that you have to spend an ungodly amount of time to that type of detail, and to be honest when a song takes 3 days to complete it almost becomes "work" and not just sitting down creating a song enjoying it or having fun doing so  :D but that's my own damn fault.  ;D When I listen to Galactic X-Ploration which was very complex I hear a much cleaner better defined sound as compared to this track.... I strive for that type of sound.

i agree with everything. in order to avoid the problems caused by an excessive amount of layers playing simultaneously why don't you just record them separately and then merge them later? it usually works.
i agree with rikki's suggestion, i remember i suggested you something similar (exchanging the zap with a regular kickdrum) when you released Galactic X-ploration and Time Capsule. why don't you try that on those songs too? just an idea  :) personally i love clean and dry sounding kicks like 'slappy', 'slappier', etc..

and last but not least this song sounds great like all your latest songs, there are so many things going on, a nice structure, skillful arrangement etc... i'd love a reverb a bit more spacey here but maybe it's just me (i'm obsessed with reverb just as much as you are obsessed with low frequencies sounds  ;D)

great work, you are almost close to perfection in using the MG software
