I read in another forum topic that someone said in one of their posts,

"wish we could transfer memory card data over the net, and rip it into our own cards, that would be soo cool".

And I agreed, this would be very cool. If it were possible to transfer our memory card data over the internet, it would easier to do remixes of other peoples work and also allow for collaborations among the members here. So I did a little looking around and I recently found out that this is possible.

A Max Drive is all you need, and its actually not difficult to use from what I've read on it. Heres the pic of it along with excerts that I took from the CodeJunkies site about the product:

"MAX Drive is a USB device that fits into your PS2's USB port. It can store game saves transferred from standard memory cards for later use, or archive them on your PC's hard drive.

MAX Drive's massive 16MB(also avaliable in 32 & 64MB)capacity makes it ideal for archiving your saves, transferring them from a standard memory card to the MAX Drive USB drive using the PS2 software supplied. When you need the save again, just move it back again. The USB drive can hold double the amount of saves possible with a standard PS2 card. Just the thing if you're running out of space.

After archiving your saves to your MAX Drive, you can (if you wish) transfer them to your PC's hard drive using the MAX Drive PC software supplied. Storing your saves on your computer's hard drive gives you near-limitless space to archive saves you're not currently using, but don't want to delete. It also helps protect your game saves against memory card failure, which is the most frustrating thing that can happen to any gamer. Ever got 95% of the way through a top title, only to see your card dump your saves? With MAX Drive, you can back them up to your PC so all is not lost in the event of a memory card crash.

With your saves on your PC's hard drive, you can email them to your friends using your PC's internet connection. Imagine having all that flexibility at your fingertips! Also, the PS2 MAX Drive comes supplied with Datel's memory management software, enabling you to crush your files to save even more space, as well as PC software to manage your save files on your computer."

Heres the link for more info on it:
http://us.codejunkies.com/Products/PS2-MAX-Drive-16MB---USA__EF000459.aspx

Just imagine, if a lot of the members here had this, we would be able to upload not only our mp3s, but also our complete work, for download, and there could also be a whole new section for memory card data uploads. Also, if anyone wanted to collaborate with anyone, they could just email their work back and forth doing their part until they completed the project. This in my opinion, would make TIMGUL more interactive, fun, and interesting just to see what type of collaborations and remixes would be created.

I'm actually planning on getting one of these myself, just to back up all my memory card data on my hard drive.

OK everyone, after finding out about this from the codejunkies site a couple of days ago, I had been planning on ordering it this weekend. Today I went to Amazon to see if I could find a cheaper one than they had on their site. It was unavaliable to buy but I starting reading the reviews of people who had already bought it and all of them for the PS2 were BAD NEWS. The main problem being that the system disc(not the Max Drive) caused their memory cards to become corrupt and lose all their data.

Check out the review for yourself: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Max-Drive-for-PS2/review/product/B0002MHF3G/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

I also found a more in-depth video review on youtube for it.

(Skip to 2:18 to go straight to the Max Drive Review)

*The video gave some great advice on how to help get around losing hours of your hard work. But it would require a spare memory card.

So while I still kinda think this is a good product when used with caution, I can no longer recommend this. Because I would hate to be one of the people responsible for someones memory card getting ruined and data lost(I know about this first hand and would never want anyone to experience it).

oh wow that's awesome, I wonder if it works well and if it's super rare now? That would make sharing riffs and stuff much easier, since right now the only people who can do so are those who use PS1 emulator with Music/Music 2000

Actually there is alerady a memory card section though on the forums, right below the Music Showcase :D

I stickied this topic, unless many people report that this doesn't work

Wow!!!I'm going to try to find one,If i do i'm going to buy it.I mean thats just great,....Who doesnt have usb ports on their pc's?
If it works well,I'm definitely ready to do some collaborations & remixes. That would be awsome!! ;D

DJ_Omnimaga

I wonder if this works with PS1 mem cards, since Music 2000 is the most used of all

Yeah,i've read somwhere that it is possible to do that,But i can,t save a song directly from m2k onto a ps2 card.Maybe you have to save it on a ps1 card,...then transfere it.I have ordered a max drive from amazon btw  :)

Not a Number

What about those who don't have a PS2 and/or use emulators? (I fall into both categories. :P)
Is it possible to transfer virtual Memory Card files onto there?

Irndemon

It might be possible to transfere files between ps1 users without using a ps2 if you had a floppy drive file saving system and one on your pc,.......but they seem very rare,...Would be easier to get a ps2 and a max drive,Neither have been proven to work saving ps1 files on then putting on a computer as of yet(here),I will put the max drive to the test as soon as i get it.Would test the floppy drive,..Only i dont have a floppy drive on my laptop.

Yeah I seen that, but what I meant was to have a section for the PSX and PS2 data, cause I noticed that was only for the emulator. I think it would be good that if people were to start uploading memory card data, that there would be a section for memory card files split up into forums for each particular game/software in the series on the PS consoles along with the emulator files. Kind of like how you have the different genres split up within the "Music Showcase" section. This would help avoid confusion when uploading and help us from accidently downloading the wrong game file.

You need to save to PS1 card first and transfer it on the PS2 menu. Easy peasy.

That's exactly how you you do it to get your PSX memory card data to the PS2 memory card. Had I not done this in the past, I wouldn't have any of my old work left from the data that I lost years ago. While I didn't get a chance to save most of my completed songs before I lost them, I do have a few unfinished songs along with almost a hundred beats that I never put into a song format. Don't know if you'll be able to put PSX save data on the Max Drive though, but I'd imagine you could, we'll see.

Not sure if your able to transfer virtual files on it. But there is already a forum here for "Memory card files for ePSXe users" uploads/downloads in the "MUSIC series related" section for those who have it. As far as getting PSX game data on the net without a PS2, the only thing that I know about that can do this, is a do-it yourself Dex Drive and other similar mods.

Here are two sites that  on the subject and process of doing it:
http://www.gamesx.com/mccap/
http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/psx_cardmgr/psx_cardmgr_en.php

From what I've read, its supposedly easy to do, as long as you have the right tools.

I'm still gonna buy it though along with an extra memory card(following the advice at 4:26 of the video), and I'll probably try to upload my save data along with all my songs.

Ouch this sucks, I hope it is a new product so it can get updated x.x. I also wonder if it works on the smaller PS2, since I'm not even sure if it had an USB port.

Datel is known to rip off customers though, as most third-party console accessories producers. For example, the 2007 version of the Gamecube action replay won't even let you enter your own codes, you have to choose alerady installed codes. So if you bought this for the purpose of hacking and messing around with games (such as the amazing 5000 Km/h F-Zero cheat), you get ripped. Plus other companies who produces controllers seems to make sure their stuff will break within a few months. I had 4 snes controllers back then and only one was from Nintendo. The Nintendo one was the only one that still worked before selling my old SNES. Same with the PS1. I also got some corrupted PS1 memory cards not by sony. I assume it is why the 360 blocks memory cards also causes problems too.

If you get it and figure out how to get it to work without destroying your memory cards (I would suggest making a copy of your songs on a second mem card first and buy other memory cards to test) mind if you posted a tutorial?

When I got my GameCube in 2003 it came with one controller, so my parents got a second controller prodeced by a third party.

It pretty much became glitched up within the week. :-/

DJ_Omnimaga

For me I got a turbo controller for the SNES, it stopped working after half a year, completly. The second one had buttons stopping working. On the PS1 the controller started responding badly, and once I checked on the PSOne (small version) main screen and the cursor was flashing like 100 times a second, implying that the controller was recognized/connected/disconnected that many times per seconds, then it completly stopped working. My big Xbox third party controller has problem with one of the joystick and badly responsive controls, only after one or two uses (altough it was used, but why the official Xbox one that I used more often worked until I sold the console for a 360?) and the only custom controller I never got problem with for consoles is the small Xbox one I got, but that may be simply for the fact it was never really used much and that i never used it myself, simply because it's too small

mhmm interesting, altough most computers made after 2004 no longer has this type of port :(

Mine has only one, but it's used by the TI-83+ connection software so if I try using it for something else it will says the port is used by something else prbly x.x

I'm unsure but I think there's serial to USB adapter though

EDIT: Also not only new PCs no longer have serial link ports, but they no longer have floppy disk drives either :(

http://www.usbgear.com/USB-Adapters.html usb to serial adapter:)you don't need floppy drives because the software is widely available to dl online, that's all the floppy disks were but on the wiki pedia page is links to dl the original software and the musch better user created dexter- an open source user made application called dexter that has a GUi much like the memory card screen on the psone.i been reading up on the dex drive and various sites dedicated to it.i think it's the answer for archiving and sharing music 2000/mmg data for psx

Good suggestion, I'll probably try to buy two exta memory cards for the process if I can get them for cheap. And I'll do my best to post a tutorial once I get a chance to experiment with it.

And thanks to AudioGhost for finding the information on the dexdrive. I never really thought about buying it because I didn't have a serial port or a floppy drive on my PC. But now that I know about the software being available online and the serial to usb adapters, which are pretty easy and cheap to come by online. I'll probably end up buying this, and when I do, I'll post a review for it.

i have never bought anything online and don't have a credit card lol

Before I got a prepaid credit card I refused to buy anything online for fear of someone finding out about my credit card information and buying stuff with it or online merchants trying to charge me for extra payments that I did not want or agree to. If theres anyone who wants to buy anything online and has the same fears as I did, I would recommend using a prepaid debit card like the one that you can get at Walmart, and only putting about 50 dollars on it at a time. I would also suggest not adding money to your card online through your bank, this way no one could ever connect your card to your account.
