A Backwards step?

I only made one tune with MTV music generator 2, mainly because in many ways I felt that the program was a backwards step. It felt more restrictive, the note effects were gone and the video making aspect was just awful to get to grips with. It was so counter-intuitive to use on the video front. As for MTV MG3.... oh dear... now that really was a waste of money.

Yep I agree on this, I didn't like the fact that the song arranger sequencer scrolled vertically instead of horrizontally. The sound quallity was generally better and warmer than Music 2000 but not as tight during playback. I don't think I ever finished making a track with this program.

I give it a 4/10

Yeah the vertical scrolling looked weird, like the music 3000 one. I never tried the program much though, did MTVMG2 had more sound samples and did it had reverb effects at least?

That said MTVMG3 is probably the worst of all, because you had to base your songs on specific styles, which were one of the 10 featured artist by MTV music television. Basically MG3 was more a game meant for DJ's and arrangers/remixers, not for producers like us. To me it seemed like this program was meant as an advertisement for the 10 artists featured in it.

Is Music 3000 any good? It was released here as Digital Hitz Factory but I never had the chance to find it and try it

Yep MTV Generator 3 has to be the worst of them all, it's just another one of those sample based arranging programs like ejay.
Music 3000 for PS2 is quite good, it's got 16,000 instrument samples, 20 different studio effects and 64 channels and came with a USB sampler that you can use to sample about 12 seconds of audio from an external source.
The overall sound quallity is really good but there are many bugs and glitches. i.e If you have too many riffs in your song, some of them get missed out during play back. Play back is generally not very tight at all and some riffs sound out of sync with the beat.
Fortunately the arranger can be customised to be horrizontal or vertical and theres a great deal of customization for other aspects of the program.
Overall you can make some seriously creative tunes, shame about the glitches though.

I think Music 2000/MTV MG is a lot better.

Seems like Jester isn't too keen on Beta-testing... because even Music 2000 had glitches too, like how note effects won't get played when more than one is used at once and memory leaks (psone memory not getting fully cleared even if you optimize sample list and remove unused riffs) but that one can be remedied by saving on memory card, clearing all song/music/video/data, then reloading the song again. It doesn't have that many bugs though, just more than any other playstation games around. It's still my favourite console game ever made though :D

I heard Music 3000 was also very hard to use, was it true?

Stair

No not really, it's simular to Music 2000 but the overall lay-out is different. I think I made my first track within two weeks of buying it.
It not too hard to use.

Idk I may try to find a copy on Amazon here but they sells MTV MUsic Generator for $70 now so much it is rare

KalsolarUK

The best place to find these programs at a good price is in the bargain buckets and games stores. Although PS1 games are disappearing fast from these. You can often pick up a copy on ebay cheaply if you keep a eye out for them.

DJ_Omnimaga

I've been checking the local stores that sells old games here for 4 years and never saw any Music making program here except once when i saw mtv music generator 3. THey are so rare x.x I am lucky to have got mine in 2002

Stair

I see second hand copies of Music 3000 occassionally, usually priced around £10 ($20). But they will only work on the pal region 2 Playstation2.

Keep looking on ebay though ; )

Well I don't trust ebay much, cuz i heard about lot of people not getting the stock at all even after paying for it.

Btw I just found MTV MUsic Generator 1 for $69.95 on Amazon.ca O_O and I saw a copy of MTV Music Generator 2 for $119.95

has the games became that much rare to make prices raise so high here?

Anyway I'm gonna look for digital hitz factory, it is the american version of Music 3000

$119.95??? wow!!! I bought another copy of Music 2000 for £1 in a bargain bin a few years ago. $119.95 that's crazy.

I think the full name is 'Funk master flex's Digital hitz factory', thats the US version of Music 3000.

Here I found it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B...94561176&sr=8-1

I managed to get a copy of Music 2000 / MTV MG for £2.99 (6$) recently on ebay as a backup copy. I saw one in a games store for the same price a week beforehand and also a copy of the original Music Generator program. They soon disappeared off the shelves though.

Stair

Yeah it's always good to have back up copy.
The original Music generator, that brings back some memories. It was officially endorsed by Judge Jules if I remember correctly.

When I bought MTV Music Generator it was $14.99 or $19.99 IIRC. But over here old games prices increase drastically as they get more rare. For example, Final Fantasy III cartridge for the SNES may cost $60 while you can get the same game bundled with FInal Fantasy V on the PSOne for $24.95 or for GBA at $34.95

This is crazy how we get ripped when buying rare stuff sometimes

in relation to mtvmg2... i use this programme all the time. before this i used music 2000 which was awesome. when switching to mtvmg2 i too was a bit confused with the vertical scrolling and very annoyed with the lack of note effects that were awesome on music 2000. also there is no world view.
but after a few months 'settling in' i found mtvmg2 to be awesom-er! there are more samples to use and i found the filters in the sample editor make up for the lack of note effects. also being a ps2 game there is more memory space to save and more channels to use. i have made better tracks on this game than on music 2000.
although not perfect i think mtvmg2 is a slight step up from music 2000 the same as music 3000 is a slight step up from mtvmg2.
but at the end of the day all the ps music programmes are awesome and all deserve love and respect!

pillagemyvillage

also i can get music 3000 in the uk off ebay for about 15 quid. def look it up if you can its a great programme. it has the same samples as music 2000, mtvmg2 and loads more. also the sound quality is better. check it out

DJ_Omnimaga

I think they may have decided to remove the note effects because they were too buggy in MTVMG1 or because of the filters in the sample editor. I have a copy ordered from amazon anyway, I just hope there is a good PS2 emulator somewhere so I dont have to move my bro's PS2 to my bedroom czu he will not like it x.x

Maybe I should just sell my ps1 and get a ps2 too cuz my PS1 is a bit annoying sometimes since it's the small one and the CD door open by itself sometimes if not closed tightly

DJ_Omnimaga

MTV Music Generator 2 finally arrived from amazon

I will mess around with it when I get some time but I would like to find a good ps2 emu that run it so i can do my stuff on the PC instead so It's easier to record

The only thing i'll say about MUSIC3000 is that the instructions didn't have the controls listed so the hardest thing was working out how to move the cursor!! Took me a while..hahaha
